It is our custom during the holiday
season to create an opportunity for
you to taste extraordinary wines.
Some call these “Big Gun” wines.
Others use the term “Top Shelf.”
Still others might use words like
prestige, premium, or “Oh my God.”
However the terminology may vary, there
remain certain constants in the universe
of deliciousness we are about to bestow
upon you.
The day is Friday, November 22nd.
Availability is any time from 4-10 pm.
Cost is $30, including hors d’ouevres.
These are the bottles:
Fin Amour Cotes de Catalanes 2008, $44.97
-95 points Jim Tobin; “Iris and violet aromas
macerated with strawberry, black cherry and ripe
boysenberry. The dense, structured majestic mouthfeel
is framed in minerality. Power and elegance lay the
foundation for a complex wine of dark brooding fruit,
savory and meaty, licorice and violets, dried fruits
and rose petals.”
Casa Lapostolle Clos Apalta 2009, $79.97
-96 points Wine Spectator; “A gorgeous wine that
deftly balances polished cassis, dark cherry
reduction and blueberry notes on a compact frame.
This is structured, with silky tannins lining the
long finish that lingers on with hints of apple
wood, spice box and underbrush.”
Dunn Howell Mountain Cabernet 2003, $89.97
-95 points Wine Advocate; “Rich with surprisingly
soft tannin, this exhibits lots of briary mountain
fruit, blackberries, blueberries and cassis,
outstanding purity, full-bodied power and nicely
integrated tannin.”
Caymus Special Selection 2011, $119.97
-95 points Wine Advocate; “A brilliant wine, and one
of the stars of the vintage, this boasts aromas of
blueberry pie, blackberries, cassis and white flowers.
This full-bodied, velvety textured, delicious 2011 is
already drinking well, and should continue to do so for
10-12 years. It is a terrific success for the vintage.”
John Duval Entity Shiraz 2010, $37.97
-95 points Wine Advocate; “Scented of ripe blueberries,
mulberries, vanilla, dark chocolate, cedar, violet and
fruit cake nuances. This full-bodied wine is densely
packed with blackberry preserve and baking spice flavors,
has a refreshing acid line to add lift, and medium to
firm levels of rounded tannins. The finish goes on and on.”
There you have it. Five exceptional reds, each
having scored 95 points or better.
