WINE OF THE WEEK:
WOW, WOW, WOW!
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again.
One of the joys of the wine world is
discovering amazing wines at fantastic prices.
And we’ve done it again.
This time around it’s the 2008 Saxon Brown
“Camp Block” Syrah.
Let’s start with the nose:
Cassis, blackberry, plum, and subtle notes
of licorice, sweet tobacco, and black olive.
The kind of layered, complex bouquet you
can savor for minutes without even sipping!
But you definitely want to get around to
tasting it.
It’s not a big, simple, sweet fruit bomb.
There is plenty of ripe dark fruit, to be sure.
But there’s more – nuances of oak, leather,
and tobacco weaving through a balanced
structure of dry tannins and proper varietal
acidity.
While it’s enjoyable right out of the bottle,
it improves quite noticeably with an hour
or so of decanting.
Plus, this is a wine that – stored properly –
will age quite nicely for another 5-10 years.
Now for the best part. At the winery this
wine goes for $38. But right here at NCWC
it’s yours for just $18.97.
Come and get it. We don’t have much and
it will go fast!
