We’ll talk about your Club wines in a bit.
First, here’s the rest of the lowdown…
Your Pick-up Party is Tuesday, 7/7. Come on in
and taste all Club wines, any time from 4-9.
Our monthly BOTTLE WINNER is Mr. Craig Beukelman.
Craig, come on in and pick any past or present Silver
level wine.
As for the wines, we as usual are mixing things up
and having some fun! If you’ve been with us any
length of time, you already know our Wine Clubs
are all about exploration. That is certainly true
again this month, at both levels.
Starting with the Silvers, we’ve got something really
cool for you. Literally cool, because it’s a white wine.
(yes, we typically offer two reds, but every so often
we throw in a white that we think is especially worthy.
and why not in July, one of the hottest months? but
don’t worry; if you’re dead set against it, you may
take two of the red wines)
It’s the 2014 Revolution Chenin Blanc from Clarksburg.
This wine is delightful and surprisingly complex, with a
perfect spine of acidity supporting notes of orange
blossoms, white stone fruit, and stony minerality.
Really quite wonderful.
The second Silver is one of our most popular reds,
that somehow never before vaulted into the Wine Club.
It is the 2013 Cherry Tart Pinot Noir from “rock star”
winemaker Jayson Woodbridge, of Hundred Acre,
Cherry Pie, and Layer Cake fame.
It “jumps from the glass with aromas of raspberry,
nutmeg, sandalwood and light smokiness, lifted by
a floral note. Silky and delicate up front, with ripe
acidity framing the rich, sweet flavors of red berries,
red cherry and earth.”
Let’s discuss the Gold wines next. Here we have another
study in contrasts with two superior reds.
First is the new vintage of another old favorite, the
2013 R Petite Sirah from Jeff Runquist. This is inky,
dark, luscious, and beautiful, with caramel and
vanilla from new oak accenting ripe fruit. All that
flavor is carried along by amazingly smooth tannins.
Then, we go from that quintessential New World wine
to a stalwart of the Old World, the 2005 Vina Ardanza
Rioja Reserva. This is a blend of Tempranillo, Cenicero,
and Garnacha. It received 94 points from the Wine
Advocate, and 92 points from Wine Spectator:
“This traditional red offers dried cherry, orange peel,
tobacco and sanguine flavors in a silky texture,
supported by light, firm tannins and balsamic acidity.
Focused and fresh, with a juicy finish.”
We sure hope to see you for the Pick-up Party
on Tuesday, July 7th.
Of course, we also would love to see you for our
5th Anniversary Party on Friday and Saturday, 7/24-25!
Cheers, and Happy Summer!
