Hello September! Before we get to the tasting
notes, here is some important info:
Your Pick-up Party, which is your opportunity to
taste all 4 Club wines for free, falls on Tuesday,
September 6th, from 4-9.
Your 3rd Quarter Stock Up Days (10% off everything
in the shop) fall on the first weekend of September,
the 3rd and 4th.
The monthly BOTTLE WINNER is Dan Leach. Congrats!
Now we’ll talk about the Silver wines. First we have a fun
and funky Paso Robles red blend called Simple Solace.
It’s the 2013, which is 41% Zinfandel, 37% Cabernet, and
22% Sangiovese.
The three work together well! Rich, ripe red fruit from the
Zin combines with dark fruit notes from the Cab, with the
latter providing structure and the Sangiovese providing
necessary acidity.
For Silver #2 we are throwing our occasional curve ball,
aka a white wine. Shock! Sacrilege! (it’s okay – you can
take two reds if you’d rather)
It’s the 2015 St. Supery Oak Free Chardonnay from
Napa Valley, and it rocks! The wine is vibrant, bright,
clean, and immensely enjoyable. Aromas and flavors
include honeydew, pear, kiwi, nectarine, and orange
marmalade. Just a lovely warm weather wine.
Now for the Gold level. The 2013 Zaha Malbec hails
from the Mendoza region of Argentina. It received
a 94 point score from the Wine Advocate:
“The 2013 Zaha Malbec is co-fermented with a little
Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It has notes of
blackberries, violets, damsons, scorched earth and
some licorice. It’s powerful and fleshy, with very fine
tannins, great balance and freshness.”
Last but not least, the 2012 Kuleto Cabernet from
Napa Valley, 91 points James Suckling:
“A juicy and savory red with blackberry and hints
of toasted oak, but not overdone. Full, soft and chewy,”
with immediate appeal.
That’s the deal for September. We look forward to
helping you enjoy the month!
