June is here, and as usual we have some tasty
Club Wines for you! We’ll give you notes on those
in a moment. First, a few facts.
Your Pick-up Party, which is your opportunity to
taste all 4 Club wines for free, falls on Tuesday,
June 6, from 5-9.
Your stock-up days for this second quarter are
June 3rd and 4th. That’s your opportunity to
purchase wines at a 10% discount.
The monthly BOTTLE WINNER is Thomas Brouillette.
Congratulations, Thomas!
These are the Silver wines. The 2014 Maddie from
Madeleine Winery is a blend of Cabernet Franc and
Cabernet Sauvignon from San Benito.
The nose unfurls with notes of dark fruit, tobacco leaf,
black olive and oak. On the palate it’s just packed with
grippy tannins but still shows a strong dose of those
same dark fruits – blackcurrant, blackberry, black cherry.
Dashes of vanilla and oak spice liven things up further,
and it finishes with characteristic Cab Franc leafy and
herbal tones. Very interesting, and begging for a
hearty meat dish.
Silver #2 is the 2015 Bedrock Old Vine Zinfandel,
93 points Wine Spectator:
“Rich and supple, this is an explosion of pure, decadent
fruit. Floral huckleberry and Chinese five-spice powder
aromas open to layered blackberry, dark chocolate and
licorice flavors that linger. Drink now through 2026.”
Impressive Gold Level wines this month too. The
2013 Hilliard Bruce Pinot Noir hails from that slice
of Pinot heaven known as the Sta. Rita Hills,
and it received a 92 point score from Wine Advocate:
“This has toasty oak and creaminess in its gorgeous
cherry and dark fruits, earth, spring flowers and forest
floor-like aromas and flavors. Showing more spice with
time in the glass, it’s a brilliant, almost Burgundian-styled
Pinot Noir that has solid mid-palate concentration and
sound underlying structure. It will benefit from a year or two
in the cellar and drink nicely through 2023.”
Finally, we offer the fabulous 2013 Truchard Cabernet
Sauvignon from the Carneros appellation of Napa Valley.
Rich aromas of plum, cherry, and cassis; highlighted with
cedar and vanilla. The mouth is layered with jammy flavors
of raspberry, red currants, and black cherry. Ripe tannins
focus the palate and provide a lengthy finish of spice and
red fruit.
