Our Mi Sueno Winery tasting event was absolutely fantastic! Here’s a look at the notes:
MI SUENO WINERY TASTING EVENT, 7/19/12
MI SUENO CARNEROS CHARDONNAY 2008
We begin our exploration of the wonderful wines of Rolando Herrera’s Mi Sueno winery with this delightful Chard. “A wonderful bouquet of green apples, orange blossom, ripe peaches and honeysuckle makes for a great first impression. Adding to the pleasure is a rich, silky mouth feel that envelopes and caresses the palate. An essence of white peach, lime, apricots and cherimoya with a dash of spice and toasty oak contribute to its beauty and complexity. A hint of minerality and crisp, lively acidity maintain its sense of harmony and insures a clean, refreshing finish.” $33.97.
MI SUENO RUSSIAN RIVER PINOT NOIR 2008
Now for this delicious Pinot: “Without compromising Pinot’s textbook qualities, Rolando’s interpretation is somewhat more masculine than the average Pinot Noir. The final result is a Pinot that comfortably showcases power and finesse in equal measures. The bouquet expresses hints of terra firma, bacon, cardamom and violets. Meanwhile, the palate is gifted with bright minerality, hints of cedar, tingling tannins and a dash of nutmeg for spice. Full-bodied, spicy, toasty and balanced, this wine is pure seduction.” $42.97.
MI SUENO NAPA VALLEY SYRAH 2006
Rolando describes this Syrah’s color as “burple,” as in black and purple together. “True to its variety, this wine is full of luscious black fruit, roasted espresso, graphite and fresh forest floor. While unmistakably full-bodied and possessing tremendous structure, it maintains its balance with nicely refined tannins, well integrated toasty oak and a vibrant acidity. Unabashedly, this wine strives to capture the essence of an Old World Northern Rhone while reveling in the abundance that a New World region like Coombsville has to offer.” $39.97.
MI SUENO NAPA VALLEY EL LLANO 2009
El Llano is the name of Rolando’s birthplace in Michoacan, Mexico, and this blend of Cabernet and Syrah makes a fine way to commemorate the town. “The smell of adobe is accompanied with dried berries, black olives, roasted coffee beans, a drop of vanilla, and a dash of white pepper. Velvety tannins with balanced acidity makes for a food-friendly and versatile big red wine. Its mouth-coating richness and spicy flavors” will definitely get your attention. $35.97.
MI SUENO NAPA VALLEY CABERNET 2008
“Let’s face it, if your palate’s liking is big, bold, rich, supple and quite frankly delicious; why not reach for a Cabernet from Napa? How about a Cabernet from Mi Sueño? As elegant as this wine turned out, it certainly is not for the faint of heart. This wine presents nuances of vanilla extract, crushed coffee beans, shaved Belgian chocolate and roasted marshmallows. This gift of flavors is wrapped up with a bow of nicely-integrated tannins and bright enough acidity to pair well with teriyaki-glazed pork tenderloin or even a carnitas burrito from your favorite taco truck!” $57.97.
