HAPPY NEW YEAR! We wish you the very best in 2018, and hope
to share many delightful moments and wines with you. For now, let’s
talk about your Wine Club details.
Your Pick-up Party, which is your opportunity to taste all 4
Club wines for free, falls on Tuesday, 1/9, from 5-9.
The 1st Quarter Stock-up Days are February 10-11. 10% off
everything in the store on those days!
The monthly BOTTLE WINNER is Steve Kildoo. Congrats!
As for your New Year’s wines, let’s begin with Silver level. The 2015
Garzon Reserve Marselan is from Uruguay, yes, Uruguay.
Marselan is a variety native to southern France that was brought to
Uruguay to use as a blending grape. After tasting it from barrel the
winemaker wisely decided to bottle it on its own, and the result
is delicious. Raspberry and blueberry fruit show nice intensity, and
it’s accented by dark mineral notes.
Silver #2 is the 2013 Vina Robles Petite Sirah from Paso Robles,
90 points Decanter.
Strapping tannins shepherd dark cherry and raspberry fruit, creating
a powerful effect that nonetheless stays balanced. Very tasty, and
terrific with meaty dishes.
We arrive now at the Gold level. The 2016 Two Hands Angels’ Share
Shiraz is a new vintage of an old fave, from Australia’s McLaren Vale.
92 points Wine Spectator:
:Rich and fleshy, with ripe and round plum and cherry flavors, offering
hints of cola, sage and green tea that linger on the finish. A fresh, juicy
quality keeps everything in focus. Drink now through 2027.”
The 2016 Day Zinfandel from Sonoma is an effort from superstar
winemaker Ehren Jordan (former winemaker for Turley).
With 5% Petite Sirah added, it offers a savory nose of dried raspberry,
blueberry compote, herbs, peppercorn, purple flower potpourri and
crushed stone. It has an elegant mouthfeel complete with subtle notes
of sweet red cherry, tobacco, brown butter and bramble berry cobbler.
Thank you, be well, and CHEERS to 2018!
