WINE OF THE WEEK:
One of the exciting things about wine is that great values these days
can come from so many different parts of the globe!
For this week’s WOW we traveled to Spain – metaphorically of course –
to bring you the 2015 Hazana Rioja Vinas Viejas. The latter two words
translate as “old vines,” and the blend is 85% Tempranillo and 15%
Graciano. It received a 91 point score from Jeb Dunnuck.
The wine boasts aromas of blackcurrants, spice box, cedar and a touch
of vanilla. Full flavored yet suave, savory and expansive, this beautiful red
is a perfect synthesis of the traditional and more progressive style of Rioja.
That’s all well and good; pretty awesome, actually. The fact that this bottle
is just 10.97 makes it even more amazing!
Read on for a great opportunity to taste it.
WINE BAR HAPPENINGS:
It wouldn’t be a proper Wednesday in North County without NCWC
creating a great wine bar deal for you, so once again we deliver.
Just ten bucks this March 14th for a flight of half glasses. These
are the wines, ALL of them 91 points or better:
Hazana Rioja Vinas Viejas 2015, 10.97. 91 points Jeb Dunnuck.
Chakana Ayni Malbec 2015, 33.97. 92 points Vinous.
Louis Martini Napa Cabernet 2014, 93-95 points Wine Advocate.
It may end up raining outside this week, but here in the cozy confines
of our wine bar, it’s gonna be raining wine! (this weekend, too; got a
great winery tasting scheduled for Friday and Saturday; stay tuned
for more info on that!)
Have a great week. Hope to see you soon. 🙂
