Happy New Year! We have a delicious batch of wines for you, which we will describe
in a moment. First, a few facts.
Your Pick-up Party, which is your opportunity to taste all 4 Club wines for FREE,
falls on Wednesday the 9th, any time from 5-9.
The monthly BOTTLE WINNER is Kim Johnson. Congratulations!
Now let’s get to the wines, Silver Level first. Both are Italians, and both are terrific.
The 2015 Poggio al Tufo Rompicollo is a Tuscan blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet
that received a 92 point score from James Suckling.
The wine is delightfully fruity, showing the ripeness of the vintage, and well balanced
with good structure and a fresh finish.
Then we have the 2016 San Felice Chianti Classico. This not only got a 94 point
score from Wine Spectator, it was #19 on their Top 100 of 2018:
“Expressive and smooth, this hits all the right notes, with pure black cherry, black currant and violet flavors. Touches of earth, iron and tobacco add complexity. Shows fine harmony and length.”
On to the Golds! The 2014 Keenan Merlot is a Napa Valley classic from an
honored producer.
The wine shows intense aromas of black cherry, blackberry, and cassis. Complex nuances of cocoa and coffee bean emerge as the wine opens up. This is a “big” Merlot that will age for many years to come.
Finally, the 2015 Alto Moncayo Veraton Garnacha from the Campo de Borja region
of Spain. This is the current vintage of a wine that is perennially one of our most
popular. 92 points Wine Spectator:
“Round and juicy, this lively red shows ripe flavors of kirsch and mulled plum, with chocolate and licorice accents. Heady but not heavy, with bright acidity and spicy and floral notes on the finish.”
We hope 2019 sees you healthy and happy. Cheers and Happy New Year!
