We are excited to announce the arrival of your May Club wines, which we will
describe in a moment. First, these few details:
Your Pick-up Party, which is your opportunity to taste all 4 Club wines for FREE,
falls on Tuesday the 7th, any time from 5-9.
The monthly BOTTLE WINNER is Elizabeth Sykes. Congratulations!
AND… your STOCK-UP DAYS – your opportunity to buy wines at a discount –
fall on the very first weekend of June, the 1st and 2nd. Make a note of that
for sure!
All right, here are the Silver Level wines:
First up is the 2015 Clos de los Siete blend from Argentina, a project of world-famous
winemaker and consultant Michel Rolland. This beauty got a ton of press, including
93 points from James Suckling, 90 from Wine Advocate, and this 91 point note
from Wine Spectator:
“Offers a lithe and well-cut blend of cherry, dried berry, currant and spice box flavors that mesh easily. The richly textured finish lingers with creamy notes. Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2021.”
Next is another Argentinian, the 2017 Felino Cabernet from another quite famous
winemaker, the illustrious Paul Hobbs. And yet another 93 point score from
James Suckling:
“A red with sweet tobacco, plum and chocolate character. Medium to full body, and
a savory finish, which is delicious.”
Pretty good start, right? Now let’s look at the Golds. The 2016 Saintsbury
Pinot Noir from Carneros is gorgeous:
Pretty, dense aromas of rose petal, dark cherries, cocoa, anise and cardamom. Sweet cherry and plum entry with a zesty mid palate reminiscent of baking spices, leading into an opulent, elegant, lingering finish.
Finally, we have the 2016 Louis Martini Cabernet from Napa Valley, 92 points
Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate:
“84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petite Sirah, 5% Petit Verdot, 1% Merlot and 1% Malbec, aged in 30% new French and American oak. Deep garnet-purple colored, it gives up bold notions of cassis, black cherries and spice box with hints of cedar and fragrant earth. The palate is medium to full-bodied, firm and grainy with loads of muscular fruit accented by a notable but not overwhelming oaky presence, going to a long, layered finish.”
Really a great batch of wines – we think you’ll enjoy them!
