Wow, the first month of the year is about gone already!
No worries – our Friday Night Events are perfect for
celebrating (or forgetting) the passage of time. To help us
do that, we’ve invited Catherine from Torrey Wines to pour
incredible wines from Frank Family Vineyards!
Cost is our usual 10 bucks. Plus you’ll get some tasty
nibbles and the company of a bunch of very fun people!
Here’s our flight:
Frank Family Napa Chardonnay 2008, $25.97 -91 points Tobin Bros.
Frank Family Carneros Pinot Noir 2009, $29.97 – 91 points Tobin Bros.
Frank Family Napa Zinfandel 2007, $29.97 – 89 points Tobin Bros.
Frank Family Napa Cabernet 2007, $39.97 – 93 points Robert Parker
Frank Family Reserve Cabernet, Rutherford 2007, $74.97 – 95 points Robert Parker
In addition to these, we will feature the 2004 Amizetta Cabernet from Napa.
(the winery discovered 30 cases of this last one buried in their warehouse
and wanted to get rid of it. We tasted it, were amazed, and bought all of it.
It’s an unbelievable deal at $24.97, which is $20 off the winery price.)
These are exceptional wines. You seriously do not want to miss this.
Tasting this lineup for only 10 clams is ridiculous!
See ya here!
(and here are our tasting notes for this event…)
FRANK FAMILY SPARKLING WINE
With 19 million albums sold in the U.S. alone, “The Beatles” (commonly known as “The White Album”) is one of the best selling records of all time. Trivia question: Ringo Starr was one of two people to play drums on the album – who was the other? As for this delicious bubbly, it’s as rare and wonderful as hearing “Revolution #9” on the radio. It’s crisp and bone dry, but also bold and rich. 88 points Tobin Bros. $29.97.
FRANK FAMILY NAPA CHARDONNAY 2008
Fleetwood Mac sold 19 million copies of “Rumours.” Trivia: Before they joined the band, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks released an album together – what was it called? This group did almost as much partner swapping as songwriting, but I’m not sure I would swap this Chard for any other. It opens with aromas of honeysuckle, citrus and peach and is as abundant and vivacious as Stevie’s cleavage. 91 points TB. $25.97.
FRANK FAMILY CARNEROS PINOT 2009
Shania Twain rang up 20 million units of “Come on Over.” Trivia: Her producer and husband, Mutt Lange, produced what other band or artist listed in these notes? We taste a lot of wines “That Don’t Impress Me Much,” but this one rocks like “Honey I’m Home,” with a lavish bouquet of berries, brown sugar, cherries and smoked bacon. It follows with balanced flavors and a graceful finish. 91 points Tobin Bros. $29.97.
FRANK FAMILY NAPA ZINFANDEL 2007
ACDC moved 21 million “Back in Black” albums. Trivia: “Hells Bells” off this album was the anthem for former Padres closer Trevor Hoffman – how many saves did Trevor have in his career? The complex aroma shows black cherry, raspberry, cinnamon, fig and pepper. The palate is equally layered and complex, with chocolate, spices and roasted nuts joining the fruit through a long finish. You’ll want to open a bottle for friends and sing “Have a Drink on Me.” 89 points Tobin Bros. $29.97.
FRANK FAMILY NAPA CABERNET 2007
Pink Floyd sold 23 million copies of “The Wall.” Trivia: what rock star played the lead roll in the movie version? This wine is as lively and well-structured as the guitar solo in “Another Brick in the Wall.” Beautiful aromas of blackberries, vanilla, espresso and chocolate are followed by juicy cherry, blackberry pie and cinnamon on the palate. So deep and velvety it will make you feel “Young Lust.” 93 points Parker. $39.97.
FRANK FAMILY RESERVE CABERNET 2006
27 million U.S. copies. Michael Jackson. You know it’s gotta be “Thriller.” Trivia: which actor performed the spoken word portion of the title song? The album is a masterpiece, and so is this wine. A gorgeous, plush, concentrated palate of tangy dark fruits and sweet tannins evolves through a finish as long as the string of hits that came from this record. 95 points Parker. $74.97.
AMIZETTA NAPA CABERNET 2004
The U.S. champion, with 29 million albums sold, is… well, that’ll be our last trivia question. This wine is a champion as well. The perfumey, Bordeaux-like nose of blackberry, rose petal, crushed leaves and leather notes leads to an equally complex palate that will give you a “Peaceful Easy Feeling.” We got the last 30 cases of this; grab some before it’s “Already Gone.” 94 points Tobin Bros. $24.97.
