June is here, and so are your wines! But first, a few tidbits:
Your Pick-up Party, which is your opportunity to taste all 4 Club wines for FREE,
falls on Wednesday the 5th, any time from 5-9.
The monthly BOTTLE WINNER is Pamela Fantin. Congratulations!
AND… your STOCK-UP DAYS – your opportunity to buy wines at a discount –
fall on this very first weekend of June, the 1st and 2nd. Come take advantage!
All right, here are the Silver Level wines:
The 2016 Argiano NC Toscana is a blend of Cabernet, Merlot, Syrah and
Sangiovese that pulled a 93 point score from James Suckling:
“This is beautiful on the nose, showing lots of brambly notes, ranging from undergrowth and forest floor to elderberries, raspberry bush and dried herbs. Full-bodied, tight and very elegant, framed by linear tannins and bright acidity.”
The 2016 Cima Collina “Bluebird” is a Monterey blend of Syrah, Petite Sirah,
and Cabernet Franc. Well integrated toasty oak notes accent ripe red cherry
and black cherry fruit. Grippy tannins provide solid structure without becoming
obtrusive, and hints of olive and light herbs add interest to the drying finish.
Now for Gold. The 2016 Luna Winemaker’s Reserve Cabernet received a host
of 90+ point scores from the wine writers, and it is a rock solid Napa Cab for sure.
Aromas include toasty oak, vanilla, blackberry, cassis, and chocolate. On the palate
it demonstrates superb balance between fruit, oak, tannins, and alcohol, with those
aromas following through as flavors. Classic Napa.
Finally we have the 2017 Frog’s Leap Zinfandel, also from Napa Valley. This has
some Petite Sirah and Carignan blended in, and it’s a Cali Zin that draws its
power from sophistication rather than just big fruit and alcohol.
The wine offers notes of black cherry, boysenberry, toast, vanilla, spice, and a
bit of dusty earth, all wrapped up in big grippy tannins. Beautifully structured
and very well made.
Enjoy your wines, and have a great month!
