Once again… the best, awesomest, smokinest,
bitchinest deal in town! Come on down!
And here we have our tasting notes for the event:
LA TUNELLA TOCAI FRIULANO 2006
From the Friuli region in Northestern Italy, this pretty white starts our game with fruity, floral aromas of peach, pear, almond and wild flowers that jump out of the glass like Donald Driver doing the “Lambeau Leap.” The smooth and creamy texture reveals citrus flavors balanced with a clean minerality. Very tasty! 88 points Robert Parker. $9.97.
EQ PINOT NOIR 2007
For years Chile has been a wine underdog known for value and not much else, especially when it comes to Pinot. This is one of the wines that will change that perception. It carries alluring aromas of cherries, roses and rich earth, backing up delicious blackberry, spice and cherry flavors like the Steeler secondary backing up the front seven. The solid structure shows in a grip like that of James Harrison tackling a hapless quarterback. 90 points Wine Advocate. $19.97.
KOYLE SYRAH 2007
Another Chilean beauty, this is rich and creamy, with intense cassis, chocolate, toasty oak and graphite notes on both nose and palate. It carries a long, lingering, velvety finish all the way to the end zone, with well-integrated tannins suggesting enough structure for this to age as gracefully as Hines Ward. 90 points Ken’s Wine Guide. $13.97.
KOYLE ROYALE SYRAH 2007
Very dark in the glass, with minty black fruit, leather, spice and salty meaty accents on the nose, this has the concentration of a head coach on game day. Ripe blackberry and raspberry fruit are balanced with moderate tannins and more of those meaty notes. Full-bodied as tackle Flozell Adams, and as persistent. 91 points Wine Advocate. $18.97.
KOYLE RESERVE CABERNET 2008
Lovely aromas of ripe black cherry, tobacco, dried herbs and coffee will entice you into drinking this like Aaron Rodgers luring the D-line with a hard count. Absolutely fresh, ripe and elegant, with red berry flavors, fine tannins, and a finish as long as one of Aaron’s deep passes. 90 points Wine Advocate. $13.97.
KOYLE ROYALE CABERNET 2007
Pure deliciousness. You’ll smell blackberry, black tea, violets and black pepper, followed by mouthfilling tastes of plum, berry, spice cake and subtle herbs. Big and juicy, with nice tannic grip integrated throughout a finish as long and complex as Troy Polamalu’s hair. 92 points Wine Enthusiast. $18.97.
CAYU MALBEC 2007
This wine is a collaboration of six friends from both Argentina and Chile; “Cayu” means “six” in the language of the indigenous Mapuche people from the south of both countries. As far as we’re concerned, though, it means “awesome.” On the nose it’s rich and jammy, with almost syrupy fruit. A very concentrated and rich palate follows, showing off flavors of blackberries, black cherry, subtle spice, vanilla, and light loamy earth like B.J. Raji showing off during his “pick six” 2 weeks ago. 91 points Tobin Bros. $39.97.
