HERE’S WHAT’S NEW:First of all, THANK YOU! Our amazing customers have been so supportive and concerned during these difficult times, and we feel incredibly blessed to have such a wonderful NCWC family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Part of your support has been to express an enormous desire to have us stay open. And for now we indeed WILL STAY OPEN, with some adjustments. Hours for now are 11-6, Tuesday through Saturday. Wine shop only. We continue to take every precaution to keep the shop sanitized for your – and our – protection. Furthermore, we encourage you to place phone orders whenever possible. Our number is 760-653-9032, and we’re happy to help you choose wines that way. A phone order with curbside pickup is a great “social distancing” strategy! Home delivery is another great option. To facilitate that for you, we have chosen to waive all delivery fees for most parts of North County. You just need to make sure an adult will be present to receive the wine. Of course, these days that’s probably not an issue! These are certainly challenging times for us all, but a positive attitude always helps. We intend to keep smiles on our faces and wine in the shop, at the same low prices as ever. As always, we look forward to serving you in any way we can. In addition to wine and beer, we also have water, cheese, crackers, and chocolate. All of those sound like necessities, right? 🙂 Here’s to your health! WINES OF THE WEEK:With the shop still open, we absolutely must continue our WOW tradition! (that’s “Wine of the Week,” if you’re new to this newsletter) We even added a second WOW this week. Since we could all use a little comfort these days, we’re going with a great comfort wine! It’s the 2015 Easton Zinfandel from Amador County in the Sierra Foothills. Check out the 92 point accolade from Wine Spectator, which awarded this wine the #45 spot in their Top 100 list for 2018: “Epitomizes fine Sierra Foothills Zinfandel, offering vibrant, briary raspberry, smoked pepper and wild sweet anise flavors that stretch out on the zesty finish. Drink now through 2023.” A complex, delicious Zin might be just the thing to help us keep our sanity in these crazy times. Come pick up a bottle! Just 17.97. As for the 2nd WOW, it’s from an iconic Napa Valley producer – Groth. The 2014 Reserve Cabernet received a 94 point score from Wine Enthusiast: “Muted at first, this reserve wine shows a deft hand. A red currant tone is met by a mild grip of tannins and a soft midpalate that is lightly rich in coconut shavings and mocha. Supple and balanced in richness, it offers classic flavors of cassis and cherry wrapped in supportive oak.” The Groth Reserve Cab typically sells for about $140. But we have this 2014 vintage available at HALF PRICE, at just 69.97. Available while it lasts! One caveat: while all the elements are in place for this to provide a wonderful drinking experience, it needs time to come together seamlessly. As is quite typical of this wine, and other high-end Napa Cabs, a few more years aging will pay big dividends!
