Wow, September already! Once again we’ve got some terrific wines set aside for you. A bit of info first, though. The winner of the FREE bottle for June is Mike Hower, who gets to choose any past or present Silver level wine. Congrats! Your STOCK-UP DAYS for September, when you get that helpful discount on wine purchases, are Friday and Saturday, the 25th and 26th. Take advantage! And now for the wines, Silver first. The 2017 Embankment Red from Alexander Valley is a blend of 76% Merlot, 14% Cab and 10% Petit Verdot from winemaker extraordinaire Nick Goldschmidt. This has deliciously ripe fruit, with blueberries and cherries standing out and getting a nice accent from oak and vanilla. Then we’re doing that crazy thing we do about once a year – including an actual real life honest-to-goodness white wine. With the heat we’ve got coming, you’ll be glad we did. It’s the 2019 Trione Sauvignon Blanc, and it is SO tasty and refreshing. You’ll be reminded of white peach, melon, lemon, mandarin, and a hint of stony minerality. Enjoy this as a cooling aperitif or with light seafood dishes, crusty bread and soft cheeses.(as always, if you want to avoid the white you can take two reds) Now for the Gold. The 2016 Burgo Viejo Licenciado Rioja Reserva is a Spanish wonder that received a 95 point score from Decanter. Distinctly pure and vivid, this offers spicy black fruit, a savory tone, dark earthiness and integrated oak nuances. It shows generous depth and is beautifully balanced and classy. Finally, the 2016 Hilary Goldschmidt Cabernet from Oakville saw this 93 point note from Wine Spectator: “A bright and juicy version, with anise and sassafras notes among a core of lightly mulled currant, blackberry and raspberry fruit. The finish features red and black licorice details, and a hint of roasted apple wood.” We are so very grateful to you for your support and encouragement during this difficult year. We wish you and yours health, peace, and success!
