Wow, November already! Once again we’ve got some terrific wines set aside for you. A bit of info first, though. The winner of the FREE bottle for June is Shauna Wright, who gets to choose any past or present Silver level wine. Congrats! Your STOCK-UP DAYS for the month, when you get that helpful discount on wine purchases, are Friday and Saturday, the 27th and 28th – aka Black Friday and “Small Business Saturday.” Take advantage! And now for the wines, Silver first. From the world-famous Paul Hobbs comes the 2018 Felino Malbec. This Mendoza red got 92 points from James Suckling: “A juicy and savory red with dried berry and a hint of iron, with firm but silky tannins leading to a flavorful finish. Has some backbone and structure.” From Spain we have the 2016 Borsao Cabriola, a blend of Garnacha, Syrah and Mazuelo hailing from the Campo de Borja region. The wine is nice and juicy up front, but with fine structure, showcasing blackberry and raspberry notes along with cocoa and a hint of dusty earth. Now for the Gold wines. The 2016 Ojai Vineyard Pinot Noir Puerta del Mar is from Santa Barbara County. 94 points Jeb Dunnuck: “The salty, mineral-laced 2016 Pinot Noir Puerta Del Mar offers a distinct Burgundian style in its forest floor, savory red fruits, moss, river rock, and earth. Fresh and lively on the palate, it stays balanced, layered, and silky, with no hard edges. It’s another singular Pinot Noir from this estate that’s going to benefit from a year or two of bottle age and keep for over a decade.” Finally, the 2015 Laird Jillian’s Blend comprises Cab, Syrah, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Wine Spectator calls it hedonistic, offering this 92 point note: “A ripe and lush style, with waves of cassis, plum sauce and açaí berry rolling through, coated with mocha and sweet spice notes and leading to a very polished finish.” I know we say this a lot, but we really are SO appreciative of your ongoing support. As we head into the holidays, our thoughts and high hopes are with you and your loved ones. Let’s make the most out of the holiday season! 🙂
