Hello and Good Day!
Your Wine Pick-up Party this month will
be on the very first Tuesday, February 5th,
anytime from 5-9 pm. We’ll have both
the Silver and Gold level wines available
to taste.
Congratulations to our February winner of the
monthly free bottle, Dennis Colome!
Dennis, you may choose any past or present
Silver Level bottle.
Your first quarter Stock-Up Day, when you
get 10% off everything in the store, is
Saturday, February 9th… just in time for
Valentine’s Day! This is a cool benefit that
can add a lot to the value of your membership.
If you can’t make it on the 9th, see us about
arranging an alternate day for you!
As for your February wines, we’ll start with
the Silver Level. The first is the 2008
Vina Eguia Rioja Crianza, which received
91 points from the Wine Advocate:
“The nose demands coaxing from the glass,
but it eventually offers a crisp, natural bouquet
of dark berries, toast, and leather. The palate
is very well-balanced, with lithe tannins that
caress the mouth. The oak is seamlessly
integrated towards the lingering, supple finish.
This is a very well-crafted Rioja.”
Silver #2 is the 2007 Derby Petite Sirah from
Paso Robles. It’s unfined, unfiltered, and
pretty much untamed:
From the entry on down the line you’ll
notice big, dusty tannins gripping your
cheeks like they’ll never let go. But still
there’s lots of dark, juicy fruit up front,
with cedar, vanilla, and coffee notes
emerging later. This is a big, big boy that
begs for something meaty and fatty.
Now for the Gold Level Wines. The first is
the 2011 Meiomi Pinot Noir, which blends
Pinot from Sonoma, Monterey, and Santa
Barbara counties.
The Wine Spectator gave this 92 points:
“Dark and rich, showing toasty mocha oak flavors,
with a beam of wild berry, raspberry, cola, vanilla
and spice. Long on the finish, this will drink well
through 2020.”
Your 2nd Gold is the 2009 Antica Cabernet
Sauvignon from Napa Valley. This also received
92 points, from the Wine Advocate:
“Dark red fruit, licorice, smoke and tar are some
of the nuances that flow from this layered, gorgeous
Cabernet Sauvignon. While terrific now, it will almost
certainly be even better in a few years’ time. A
mid-weight, gracious wine, the 2009 should drink
well to age 20 or so.”
That’s it for February. Hope to see you soon.
Cheers!
