Happy New Year!
Your Wine Pick-up Party this month will
be on the second Tuesday, January 8th,
anytime from 5-9 pm. We’ll have both
the Silver and Gold level wines available
to taste.
Congratulations to our January winner of the
monthly free bottle, Anna Johnsen!
Anna, you may choose any past or present
Silver Level bottle.
Your first quarter Stock-Up Day, when you
get 10% off everything in the store, is
Saturday, February 9th… just in time for
Valentine’s Day! This is a cool benefit that
can add a lot to the value of your membership.
If you can’t make it on the 9th, see us about
arranging an alternate day for you!
As for your January wines, we’ll start with
the Silver Level. The first is the 2010
Franciscan Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa
Valley. These are the winery’s notes:
“A rich bouquet of dark cherry, cocoa, clove,
plum, tobacco and toasted oak, with delicate
notes of coffee and truffle. It is rich and full on
the palate with a supple mouthfeel and opulent
layers of plum, cherry, anise, and mocha. Smooth
and concentrated, the wine exhibits richly woven
texture with dark, dense fruit on the long finish.”
Silver #2 is the 2006 PB Hein Lyons Vineyard
Syrah from Napa Valley.
You’ll find loads of ripe, dark blue and red
fruit on the nose, along with vanilla and a
subtle savory note. On entry this once again
is all about the fruit, very ripe and rich and
echoing the nose. Moderate tannins exert some
grip, with classic savory, smoky notes rising
on the finish.
Now for the Gold Level Wines. The first is
the 2010 McPrice Myers Beautiful Earth
from Paso Robles.
80% Syrah, 11% Mourvedre, and 9% Grenache,
this gorgeous blend received 91 points from
Stephen Tanzer:
“Complex scents of red and dark berries
complemented by minerals, mint, anise and
exotic spices. At once rich and focused,
offering sweet raspberry and blackcurrant flavors,
supple texture and strong mineral snap. This
attractive sweet, precise blend finishes with strong
cut and lingering notes of spices and flowers.”
Your 2nd Gold is the 2010 Flora Springs Cabernet
from Napa Valley. From the winery:
“The aromas of this wine just explode out of the glass,
cinnamon clove followed by rhubarb and black cherry
cola. The flavor profile presents itself with juicy tannins
followed by sweet vanillin and cedar spice. Fresh
blueberries and boysenberries mixed with hints of dried
herbs round out the finish.”
We recommend giving this wine at least an hour
in a decanter before serving. Or cellar it for a few
years; it should drink beautifully at least until 2020!
That’s the January tale. May the month be a very
positive start to a great year!!
Cheers!
