FRANK FAMILY BLANC DE NOIRS SPARKLING WINE
Ours is not the only famous anniversary in 2011. 25 years ago a little company called Microsoft first went public. Those who invested at the time could celebrate with plenty of this vibrant bubbly, with aromas of strawberry, cherry, hazelnuts and baked bread. Those same flavors follow through on the light, creamy palate, hitting control, alt, delish. $37.97.
AMIZETTA CABERNET 2004
80 years ago this year Nevada legalized gambling. But this wine is a sure bet. Its perfumey, Bordeaux-like nose of blackberry, rose petal, crushed leaves and leather leads to an equally complex palate that is balanced and silky. 2007 is the current vintage; this one came from our personal cellars.
“H” BY HARTWELL 2008
It was 50 years ago that a great musical blend called The Beatles made their first appearance at Liverpool’s Cavern Club. This wine may not have as many gold records, but it’s really “Something.” Aromas of blackberries, rich oak, and menthol notes “Come Together” as rich dark berries on the smooth, creamy palate. The sweet, integrated tannins and long, lingering finish will have you singing “I Feel Fine.” $29.97.
STERLING SVR 2007
One of our most sterling presidents was inaugurated 150 years ago. Honest Abe never got the chance to taste this, but he no doubt would have agreed with The Wine Enthusiast, which called it lush and decadently delicious. These raspberry, cherry and sweet oak flavors get our vote every time. $29.97.
BOYANCI INSPIRE CABERNET 2007
Is there a more inspiring tune than The Star Spangled Banner? Adopted as our anthem 80 years ago, it never fails to stir patriotic feelings. This focused, classy Cabernet swirls emotions of its own, with currant, blackberry, and herb flavors accented by cedar and anise. $39.97.
L’AVENTURE OPTIMUS 2008
The Marathon turns 2500 this year. And while winemaking is a marathon of its own, some clearly cross the finish line ahead of the pack. This is L’Aventure’s first Optimus to be made from 100% estate fruit, and it’s simply luscious. Integrated aromas of fir, graphite, and acacia create an excellent nose. A focused attack of crushed flowers, cherries, and plums wash over the palate, finishing with orange peel and toast. $39.97.
FRANK FAMILY CABERNET 2008
The Peace Corps turns 50 this year, and what’s more peaceful than sharing a fantastic wine with friends? This one leads with generous aromas of dark chocolate, black cherry and spice which are layered with dusty cedar and loam. The palate is vibrant and concentrated, bursting with ripe black cherries, plum, currant and blackberry. Balanced and well structured, its tannins provide lasting grip without any loss to its refined elegance. $39.97.
