Now for the wines…
TASTING NOTES:
Silver Level first. The 2021 Alvarez de Toledo Mencia Edicion Especial is from Spain’s Bierzo region.
It has a nose of black and red berries and fennel. Bright flavors of raspberry and pomegranate wash across the palate joined by bittersweet chocolate, mint, espresso and mocha notes wrapped in a layer of rigorous tannins. The enduring finish is marked with a note of chocolate-covered cherry.
Next up is the 2016 Clos du Pavillon Puisseguin-Saint Emilion from France’s Bordeaux region.
100% Merlot, this delivers aromas and flavors suggesting red berries, black plums, dried herbs and warm, loamy earth. Tremendous grippy structure lends this wine character and stature that defies its price point.
Moving to Gold Level, we have the 2021 Trisaetum Pinot Noir from Oregon’s Willamette Valley.
This is vivacious and sleekly layered, with cherry and guava flavors that are highlighted by black tea and cinnamon, finishing with balancing tannins.
Finally, we offer the 2018 DeLorimier Phoebe Keys Red blend from Alexander Valley. This is 60% Cabernet, 15% each Petite Sirah and Cab Franc, and 5% each Sangiovese and Barbera.
No wallflower, this wine is packed with aromas and flavors of blackberry, vanilla, black cherry, toasty oak and chocolate, with the structure to hold it all together.
We wish you a wonderful January and year! Thank you for your support – you are greatly appreciated!!
