WINE CLUB TASTING NOTES:
Silver Level first. The 2019 Chateau Lauriga Cotes du Roussillon Reserve, a blend of Carignan, Syrah and Grenache, is from southern France.
It’s a generous red, brimming with ripe brambly berry and cherry flavors, infused with licorice, orange peel and floral accents. Elements of herbs, spice and cured meat linger along the finish.
Next up is the 2020 Capezzano Barco Reale di Carmignano, a Sangiovese-based blend from Tuscany.
It is a juicy, vibrant red with raspberry, mulberry, cherry, sage, lemon and spice-box aromas and flavors. Lightly chewy tannins and fresh acidity keep it focused and energetic.
Moving to Gold Level, we have the 2022 Margerum M5 red, a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre and others.
Aromas of boysenberry, blueberry, violet and lilac on the nose lead into a silky purple-flower display on the palate, where generous berry flavors are framed by firm tannins.
Finally, we offer the 2022 Bedrock Evangelho Vineyard from Costa Contra County, a Zinfandel-based field blend.
Aromas include dark fruit, vanilla, cocoa powder and dusty earth. On the palate, juicy blackberry, blackcurrant and black cherry all make an appearance, with dusty earth and subtle oak tones, a waft of smoke, savory dried herbs, plus a bit of pepper and spice. This is damn good.
Be well, and have a wonderful month!
