Now for the wines…
WINE CLUB TASTING NOTES:
Silver Level first. The 2019 Mother’s Ruin Cabernet is from McLaren Vale in Australia.
Lively and complex, with a complex mix of kirsch, dried cherry, red licorice, tea and oregano, with hints of lavender and olive. It is plush, juicy and generous, with soft tannins.
Next up is the 2021 Domaine Talmard Macon Chardonnay from France’s Burgundy region. (As you know, whites rarely show up as Club Wines. But given the heat this time of year, and the sheer quality of this wine, we’re making a worthwhile exception!)
No oak barrels here, just pure, luscious flavor. Lemon, apple and white floral aromas lead into a crisp but beautifully textured palate, with pleasing minerality rising on the juicy finish.
Moving to Gold Level, we have the 2020 Cordant “Bedlam,” a Central Coast blend of 45% Syrah, 35% Petite Sirah and 20% Grenache.
This delivers notes of plum, blackberry and raspberry on the lushly textured palate, with hints of lavender and minerality on the long finish.
Finally, we offer its sibling, the 2020 Cordant “Pandemonium.” Also Central Coast, it’s a blend of 85% Syrah and 15% Petite Sirah.
Aromas of black cherry, cassis, vanilla and dusty earth follow through on the palate with impressive balance, delivering a big, flavorful mouthfeel.
That’s it for this month. Thank you so very much, and have a great August!
