Happy summer to you!
Your Wine Club wines are here and
ready for you. If you’d like to taste all
four, the Pick-up Party is TUESDAY,
August 5th, any time from 5-9. Come taste
the club wines for free, and mingle with
fellow members.
Our monthly WINNER is Spencer Myers.
Spencer, feel free to select any past or
present Silver level wine.
Now for the wines, starting with the Silvers.
First up is the 2011 Aia Vecchia Lagone
from Tuscany, Italy. 89 points Wine
Advocate:
“A blend of Merlot (60%), Cab, and a bit of
Cabernet Franc, the 2011 Lagone is a super
ripe and soft wine with jammy aromas of blackberry
and prune backed by milk chocolate and tobacco.
Aged one year in barrique, the wine presents supple
and velvety characteristics. It’s a terrific value.”
The second silver is the 2012 Casarena
Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva from Mendoza,
Argentina. 91 points Stephen Tanzer:
“Cassis, licorice and bitter chocolate aromas are
perked up by a whiff of orange rind. Juicy and spicy
but at the same time quite rich, even viscous, with
fresh framing acidity and a hint of graphite minerality
giving shape to the dark berry flavors. Finishes very
long and lush, with suave tannins, repeating minerality
and a note of chocolatey oak.”
Now to the Gold Level. First is the Castello
Romitorio Rosso di Montalcino 2011, which
of course is 100% Sangiovese Grosso from
the hamlet of Montalcino, in Tuscany.
Fruit-forward aromas are reminiscent of red
berries, tobacco, and crushed violets. The wine
stands out for its elegance and finesse, and its
structure is lavishly balanced with a mouth-watering
viscosity and persistent finish.
Finally, we offer the 2012 Melville Pinot Noir
from the Santa Rita Hills. 94 points Antonio
Galloni and 92 points Stephen Tanzer:
“Fresh fruit aromatics of mandarin orange, black
raspberry and grilled watermelon spring from the glass.
On the palate, pretty nuances of rose petal, gardenia
and oolong tea mingle with herbal notes of sandalwood,
star anise, fresh thyme and fennel seed. The mouthfeel
is plush and velvety yet finishes with significant
persistence and volume.”
This once again is a tasty batch of wines!
Come taste all four at the Pick-up Party,
which again is TUESDAY, AUGUST 5th.
Take care, and thanks!!
