WINE OF THE WEEK:
Portugal is famous of course for its brawny, fortified dessert wines, Port and Madeira.
But they make oceans of dry wines as well. And while some of the grapes may
not be household names here in the States, the wines can be delicious.
Witness this week’s WOW. The 2013 Dourum Red from the Douro Valley (where
Port comes from) received a stellar 91 point score from Wine Spectator, and got
the #84 spot in their 2015 Top 100. Here’s the note:
“This has a core of violet, plum and red berry flavors that are broad yet well-defined. Medium-grained tannins gain power midpalate, with mineral and shiso leaf notes
on the taut finish.”
We just tasted this wine and thought that score was well-deserved. It’s showing
beautifully and will pair well with a wide array of dishes.
Best of all, this tasty red is just 14.97/bottle. Read on for a great way to try it!
