WINE OF THE WEEK:
Been a while since we’ve had a WOW
from France, and frankly, it’s about time!
This one is the 2009 E. Guigal Cotes
du Rhone, which received a stellar 90
point score from Stephen Tanzer:
“Complex aromas of red and dark berries,
Indian spices and violet, with slow-building
smokiness. Taut and focused on the palate,
offering lively cherry and black raspberry flavors
that pick up weight with air. Juicy and nicely
concentrated Cotes du Rhone with strong
finishing punch and lingering spiciness.”
This delicious wine is roughly half Syrah and
half Grenache, with a dash of Mourvedre.
Just $14.97 at NCWC.
And 100% yummy in your tummy. 🙂
WINESDAY FLIGHT:
This Wednesday, 12/4, we’ve put together
a lineup of wines you really should try.
As usual, it’s just ten bucks for a half
glass each of three wines, the deal being
available any time from 5-9.
They are definitely worth your time,
and here they are:
Guigal Cotes du Rhone 2009, $14.97
-described above
Amancaya Gran Reserva 2011, $17.97
-A blend of Malbec and Cabernet, this boasts
aromas of ripe dark cherries and blackcurrant
are followed by some cedar, meatiness and earth.
The full bodied palate is stuffed with ripe dark cherries,
blackcurrant, plus underlying savory, cedar and earth
notes. Excellent depth with a long, spicy finish.
Vignalta Gemola 2007, $33.97
-A blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc,
this has the structure, flavor profile, and complexity
to fool a lot of people into thinking it’s an excellent
Bordeaux.
All three have multiple things in common, aside
from being red, and being delicious. You can
probably figure out at least one of the commonalities,
but the most important is that delicious aspect.
And that one you can definitely find out for yourself.
