WINE OF THE WEEK:
Quick now – when I say “Argentinian wine,”
you say…
Malbec, right? Or maybe Torrontes?
Bet you didn’t say Merlot!
Turns out Argentina is NOT a one-trick
pony. In addition to the above, plus some
great Cabs and blends, there are a handful
of terrific Merlots to be found.
If you search hard enough, that is. But we
just made your search easier. This week’s
WOW is the 2012 Donaire Reserve Merlot,
and boy, will it go great with a steak!
You’ll find clean black cherry fruit aplenty here,
with subtle herb notes. But the fruit is corralled
by firm, dry, grippy tannins that emerge early
and hold on all the way through the chewy finish.
If you’re a “red wine with meat” kind of person,
than you will love this wine! Just $14.97 right here.
WINESDAY FLIGHT:
This Wednesday, February 18th, our customary
Winesday Flight will include the customary three
half glasses of wine for the customary ten bucks.
Now that I’m done with the word customary,
here are the wines:
Donaire Reserve Merlot 2012, $14.97
-described above
Haka Tempranillo 2012, $18.97
-blackberry, plum, and boysenberry aromas and
flavors, with dusty oak notes and big, big tannins
Ellipsis Zinfandel 2013, $19.97
-very juicy, gushing with raspberry, cherry, and red
plum flavors, gradually drying on the long finish
Between the tannins on the first two, and the
massive fruit on the last one, your palate may
never be the same. But what the hell; live
dangerously!
Available this Wednesday from 4-9 pm.
As is customary.
