WINE OF THE WEEK:
One of our favorite importer/distributors recently WOWED US with an extraordinary opportunity, and we are passing it on to you!
Chateauneuf-du-Pape rouge has been called “the gateway drug to French red wine,” and tasting it shows why. Typically a Grenache-based blend, CDP offers a delicious array of flavors including plum, raspberry, strawberry, grilled meat, leather and a complex herbal essence the French call garrigue.
This particular one we have for you is the 2018 Saint-Galet, and it’s 80% Grenache, 12% Mourvedre and 8% Syrah.
The only drawback to CDP is its price, which tends to be high. 30 to 40 bucks is about as low as you’ll ever see, and 50 to 100 dollars is common.
But tariffs and restaurant closures in France last year created a glut of good juice, and this importer took full advantage.
The result? This terrific Chateauneuf-du-Pape for just 19.97/bottle. Now that’s a WOW!
(FYI, quantities are limited, and when it’s gone, it’s gone)
