BRO-DOWN THIS FRIDAY!
This Friday, September 20th, marks the return of the Battle of the Brothers, aka
the Bro-Down!
This is the once-a-year epic tasting which is also a fierce fight between Jim & Bill
for the title of KING OF WINE. Jim – the little bro – has won 4 out of 6 of these
battles. But Big Bill won the last one, handily, so he’s got the momentum.
The best part, aside from the amazing wines? YOU get to pick the champ!
Here’s how it works. Each brother picks 4 wines, one each in the categories of
sparkling, import, blend, and Cabernet. YOU taste them all and pick your
favorite in each category, and favorite overall.
We count the votes, and a champion is crowned!
To taste these 8 incredible wines (they are definitely gonna be great, because we
both want to win very badly) the cost is $25/person. Availability is any time between
4 and 9 this Friday the 20th.
You think Ali vs. Frazier was a rivalry? Packers-Bears? Yankees-Red Sox?
Those are nothing compared to Jim vs. Bill. Join us for the Bro-Down!
FRENCH WINE SEMINAR ON SUNDAY!
This Sunday the 22nd is a rare and special opportunity to meet a French winemaker/
negociant and taste several of his very high quality wines. His name is Paul Julie, and
he will be here in the wine bar this Sunday from 1-3 pm.
These are the wonderful wines he will be delighted to discuss with you as you taste:
Chateau le Grand Verdus Bordeaux Blanc, 60% Sauvignon Blanc and 40% Semillon
Domaine Cornu Borgogne Blanc, 100% Chardonnay
Par des Anges Chateauneuf du Pape, 90% Syrah and 10% Grenache
Chateau le Grand Verdus Bordeaux Rouge, 80% Merlot, 11% Cab Franc, 9% Cab
Domaine de Sareval Cotes du Rhone, 50% each Syrah and Grenache
Chateau de Caladroy Roussillon, 80% Syrah and 20% Grenache
Domaine de Chamans Minervois, 75% Syrah and 25% Carignan
Cost is $20 to taste all wines. And all will be available for purchase by the case.
(of course, you may team up with others if you want fewer bottles)
This seminar/tasting event is really a rare treat, and a terrific opportunity to
expand your knowledge of French wine and winemaking. Cheers!
WINE OF THE WEEK:
Imagine yourself sitting beside a mountain stream, gazing upon the beauty of the French Alps, with the ultimate picnic wine. As you pour yourself another glass, you are struck by the delicacy and crispness of this refreshing white.
Welcome to your WOW. The 2017 Quenard Savoie “Les Abymes” is a delightful
white wine made with a grape called Jacquere, indigenous to the Savoie region
of eastern France, from 50 year old vines.
Refreshing, mouthwatering, wonderfully sippable, and entirely food-friendly, this may well be the perfect end-of-summer wine. And it’s just 13.97.
We must, however, add this note of CAUTION: the convergence of alpine wildflowers, cool mountain streams, and snow-capped peaks in this bottle may inspire songs from “The Sound of Music” to pop into your head.
