Wine of the Week, Part 1:
We’ve got two WOW’s for you this week.
The first is a delicious Malbec from
Argentina, the 2011 Juana de Sol.
Fruity notes of plum, raspberry, dry fig and
raisins combine with floral notes of violets.
It’s complex and harmonious, with a soft
and velvety entry, firm tannins and a lovely
juicy finish.
Just 9.97, right here, right now.
Wine of the Week, Part 2:
Sometimes one WOW just isn’t enough.
Especially when we get in a wine like this:
The 2010 Leoville Barton Saint Julien.
This Bordeaux beauty scored a perfect,
yes, perfect 100 points from the Wine
Enthusiast, and high 90’s from everyone
else.
All critics rave about this wine. Here
are the Wine Advocate’s words:
“splendid showing, much stronger from bottle
than it was from barrel, the Leoville Barton is
one of the spectacular wines of the vintage.
Inky purple to the rim, its huge tannin gives
this wine real potential for 30-50 years of longevity.
It is a classic, powerful Bordeaux made with no
compromise. A superstar of the vintage, the wine
has notes of pen ink and creme de cassis, good
acidity, sweet, subtle oak, and massive extraction
and concentration. The beautiful purity, symmetry,
and huge finish of nearly a minute make this one
of the all-time great classics from Leoville Barton.”
Of course, at $199.97/bottle, this kind of wine is
for serious collectors only.
But what the heck. It’s still a lot of fun to talk about!
Winesday Flight:
Guess what? We’re giving you a bonus
this Winesday. That’s right. Ten bucks
gets you not 3, but 4 half glasses of wine.
It’s this Wednesday, 3/20, any time from
4-9 pm. The first three are great every
day values, the price of which will blow
you away when you taste them:
Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2011
Grand Cru Merlot 2011
Grand Cru Cabernet 2011
“If You See Kay” Red Wine 2010, $17.97
The latter is a new wine from Jayson
Woodbridge, the winemaker behind
Layer Cake, Cherry Pie, and Hundred
Acre. It’s a blend of Cabernet, Petite
Verdot, and Primitivo.
Here are Jayson’s words:
“Kay smells amazing; she’s soft, creamy,
juicy, rich, and powerful all at the same time.
A dark and brooding wine, hints of imminent
danger, ripe with confidence and purpose; on
a mission. She’s more than a mouthful, but
never wasteful – like handfuls of juicy ripe
blackberries dripping from your hands, so
perfectly ripe that you have to go back again
and again for another taste.”
And yes, it’s as good as it sounds! Come
try it this Winesday!
Adios, and cheers!
