If you could bottle Paso Robles…
… this is what it would taste like!
Last week I threw out a little Facebook
hint about an upcoming WOW (Wine of
the Week) that got folks talkin’ and salivatin’.
It had to do with a smokin’ Cabernet value –
a wine sourced entirely from the famous
West Side vineyard called Halter Ranch.
The winery is a small operation called
Chateau Lettau, and they sell their Cab
for $28. But, because they’ve got the
next vintage bottled and ready to go,
they gave us a ridiculous price on the
2008, which we of course are passing
on to you!
At $14.97 here, it’s almost half off.
The wine spent 21 months in 50% new
French barrels, after which they blended
in 5% Petite Sirah to add some punch
to the front end.
The result is a very nicely balanced wine that
exhibits cherry and plum with a hint of vanilla
on the nose, maintains a nice acidity through
the mid palate and finishes with big tannins.
We grabbed what we could, several cases
in fact, and it will arrive this week (hopefully
Tuesday). But when it’s gone, it’s gone.
WINESDAY FLIGHT:
There’s a theme to the Winesday Flight
this Wednesday, 3/6. Some of you will
immediately figure it out; some will have
to ask us.
Either way, the wines are terrific!
The same deal: any time from 5-10,
$10 gets you a half glass each of
these three gems:
Tres Picos Garnacha 2010, $13.97
-92 points Wine Advocate, “Full-bodied, rich,
ripe, silky textured, pure and long, this is
an unbelievable value.”
Brassfield Estate Eruption Red 2011, $14.97
-88 points Bill Tobin, “Rich and intense, its
palate is layered with supple and round tannins,
making the wine both hedonistic and elegant.
The texture of this wine is perhaps its most
distinguishing trait – mouth-coating with an
endless finish.”
Frank Family Cabernet 2009, $29.97
-90 points Wine Advocate, “Aromas of cherry,
cassis and pipe tobacco, with suave vanilla and
spice nuances adding complexity. Offers an
array of dark fruit flavors brightened by a sexy
floral note and gentle acidity. Smooth and smoky
on the persistent finish.”
(and yes, you read it correctly up above.
Just ten bucks for a half glass each)
Cheers!
