YOUR WINE OF THE WEEK:
The WOW this time around is the brand
new vintage of a wine that we turned a
bunch of people onto a year or so ago.
It’s the 2010 Tait “Ballbuster” Shiraz blend from
Australia, which – true story – is named after
the winemaker’s wife. We got a killer deal
on this wine and are able to offer it at a price
that is several dollars less than before.
This beauty received 91 points from Stephen
Tanzer and 90 points from the Wine Advocate.
This is from the Advocate:
“Blended of 77% Shiraz, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon
and 7% Merlot, Tait’s 2010 The Ballbuster gives a
very deep garnet purple color and pronounced notes
of spiced blackberries, blueberry pie filling and
stewed plums with hints of freshly cracked black
pepper. Very full bodied and richly fruited, it has a
good line of crisp acidity lending lift and a medium to
firm level of velvety tannins, finishing long and peppery.”
Once you taste it, you won’t believe this wine
sells for $13.97. (that’s here, of course. everywhere
we looked online it sells for $15-$20)
WEDNESDAY 4/10/13:
Obviously when we tease you with a
description like the one above, you’re
going to want to taste the wine, right?
Equally obvious, a pair of awesome wine
geeks like us are going to make that
easy for you.
Hence, the latest chapter in our ongoing
quest to rename Wednesday as “Winesday.”
For just ten bucks you’ll enjoy a half glass
each of these three 90 point wines:
Winner’s Tank Shiraz 2010, $13.97
-90 points Stephen Tanzer:
“Rich, deep and seductively lush, with enticingly
sweet dark berry fruit and a mouthfilling texture
that’s rare for a wine at this price point. Suave
and expansive, finishing with gently sweet tannins
and spice.”
Tait Ballbuster 2010, $13.97
-your WOW, described above
Dead Letter Office Shiraz 2008, $19.97
-91 points Wine Enthusiast, “Editors Choice”:
“Although this starts off showing loads of
vanilla and bright, boysenberry-like fruit, this
is not a simple fruity concoction; there’s
some elegance here, and some savory notes
of coffee and roasted meat, as well.”
If this flight doesn’t define “yummy,”
we’re not sure what does!
