WINE OF THE WEEK:
We have conversed before, you and I,
about the wondrous, wonderful, worldly
wines of Spain. About their quality,
their value, their sheer deliciousness.
Well, we’re going to talk about it
again.
Your Wine of the Week is from that
fabled land…
the 2010 Alto Moncayo Veraton from
Campo de Borja, Spain. While this is not
yet rated, the previous six vintages received
92 or 93 points. The winemaker’s notes:
“A heady bouquet evokes ripe red berries,
anise, mocha and pungent fresh flowers.
Supple and sweet on entry, then more structured
in the middle, offering deep, mineral-accented
dried strawberry and cherry liqueur flavors.
Takes a spicy turn on the long, sappy finish,
which echoes the pure red berry qualities.”
If you ONLY like Apothic Red, or Allure
Moscato, or Trinitas Chardonnay, then
stay away from this one. (Not knocking
those wines. We carry them all, and
they are fine examples of those styles)
But if you like complex reds that show
depth and complexity that WAY over-
deliver for the price, then you might
consider trying this one.
$19.97 every day at NCWC.
WINESDAY FLIGHT:
Winesday = Wednesday = Hump Day.
Which also equals “Why not come to
North County Wine Company and enjoy
a great deal on a wine flight” day!
This Wednesday, June 5th, ten bucks
will get you a half glass each of these:
2010 Colome Estate Malbec:
“This suave, racy red delivers game, crushed
cherry and wild berry notes backed by fine
tannins and bright acidity. Compact, yet creamy
and well-balanced, with a long, savory finish.”
2007 Blue Cellars Syrah:
Very dark in the glass, this reveals ripe but
polished aromas of blueberry and blackberry,
with savory notes and oak spice. Full-bodied
and concentrated, the flavors echo the nose,
with toasty notes adding complexity. Stays
dark and chewy on the finish.
2010 Alto Moncayo Veraton, described above.
These wines are slammin’! Which means
really, really good. Come try them if you can.
If you can’t, tell a friend, so they can try
them and then tease you about what
you missed.
THURSDAY & FRIDAY:
Our big event this week will actually
be this Thursday, 6/6, when we welcome
Jaime Orozco from Mi Sueno winery of
Napa Valley.
On Friday, our special in the bar will
be half price glasses of wine all day!
Hope to see you!
