THE BRO-DOWN IS THIS FRIDAY 7/19!
Godzilla vs. Mothra.
Ali vs. Frazier.
Yankees vs. Red Sox.
These epic battles are NOTHING
compared to what you will witness
this Friday evening, July 19th…
THE BRO-DOWN!!!
That’s right, the Bro-Down returns!
Jim vs. Bill, brother vs. brother, as
we fight, well, not to the death, but
certainly to the utter humiliation, to
prove which one of us picks better wines.
We will pick 1 wine each in the
categories of white, import, blend,
and Cabernet, but we won’t tell you
who picked what.
You will taste all eight wines, in
“heats” of two wines per category,
choosing your favorite in each heat.
You will then select your favorite
wine of the entire tasting.
We will tabulate the ballots and
crown the new King of Wine!!
(ps, last year the younger brother won,
and while he is eager to repeat, the
older one is vowing revenge at any cost!)
This blood feud will take place between
4 and 10 pm and cost $20, which will
include hors d’oeuvres.
These are the wines:
Laetitia Brut Cuvee, $15.97
-88 points Tobin Bros.
Quinta da Aveleda Vinho Verde 2012, $8.97
-92 points Wine & Spirits
Alto Moncayo Veraton 2010, $23.97
-92 points Jim Tobin
Dead Letter Office Shiraz 2008, $19.97
-91 points Wine Enthusiast
Jonata Todos 2008, $44.97
-92 points Bill Tobin
Orin Swift The Prisoner 2011, $31.97
-92 points Wine Spectator
Silver Oak Cabernet 2008, $59.97
-94 points Wine & Spirits
Inglenook (Rubicon) Cask Cabernet 2009, $59.97
94 points Bill Tobin
That right there is a SPECTACULAR
tasting, any way you slice it.
Throw in the epic battle on top
of it all, and you have yourself
one incredible evening!
WINE OF THE WEEK:
Why don’t we begin with the description:
This projects deeply concentrated aromas
of blackberries, black plums, violets, and
intense savory notes. Undeniably full-
bodied, it boasts substantial tannins framing
the ripe, dark fruit, which is accented by
smoky, savory bacon and a touch of leather.
That sounds like it could come from
the Northern Rhone, but it actually
hails from the Yorkville Highlands of
Mendocino County.
The winery is called Bink, which is short
for Black Ink, which will make perfect
sense as soon as the wine hits your glass.
The WOW is their 2006 Syrah, which is
$19.97 at NCWC. This has to be tasted
to be believed, and you can do exactly
that any time this week!
THERE’S A REASON WE CALL IT WINESDAY!
We call it Winesday instead of Wednesday
because we love putting together dynamic
mid-week wine flights for you, and this
Winesday, 7/17, is no exception.
We’ve lined up three brand new arrivals
for you, each one full of personality and
flavor, and you can enjoy a half glass
of each for just ten bucks.
Bodegas Paso Vaca Negra 2008, $21.97
-a blend of Mourvedre, Tempranillo, and
Grenache that is richly flavored and very
well structured
Bodegas Paso Pimenteiro 2008, $29.97
-a blend of Trousseau and Tempranillo,
this definitely lives up to its name (pimenteiro
is Spanish for “pepper pot”)! Ripe red
berries accented by spice, earth, and
pepper – really delicious!
Bink Syrah 2006, $19.97
-your WOW, described above
Yeah, we know it’s summer, and we know
these are three big reds. But it’s okay –
we’re confident you can handle it!
