Here we are, with another great batch of Club Wines
to talk about! But first, a few other details.
Your Pick-up Party, which is your opportunity to
taste all 4 Club wines for free, falls on Tuesday,
February 7th, from 5-9.
The monthly BOTTLE WINNER is Ryan Davis.
Congratulations, Ryan!
Now here are the Silver wines. The 2014 Juan Gil
Silver Label Monastrell from Spain received a 91
point score from Vinous:
“Deeply pitched aromas of ripe black and blue fruits,
along with vanilla and mocha, are complicated by
floral overtones and a touch of pipe tobacco. The
appealingly sweet palate shows very good depth,
with plush dark berry and cherry-vanilla flavors and
lifting zesty minerals.”
Silver #2 is the 2014 Alcance Carmenere Gran
Reserva from Chile, 92 points James Suckling.
The ripe blackberry and blueberry fruits you’ll notice
when you smell it definitely follow through on the
palate, with dusty earth, herbs, and terrific structure
from grippy tannins.
Moving to the Gold Wines now. The 2013 Domaine
Vieux Lazaret Chateauneuf-du-Pape leads off.
Youthful now, but still approachable, this has several
years of aging ahead of it, if you’re so inclined. The
aromas and flavors both center around a melange
of red fruit – some ripe, some dried – with that classic
layer of south of France herbs called garrigue. The
tannins and acid provide balancing structure.
Last, we offer a wine we heralded a few weeks ago
as a WOW (Wine of the Week), the 2014 Salient
Cabernet Sauvignon from Spring Mountain.
This one you probably should age, or at least decant
for several hours before serving. It’s young, but it’s
awesome. Classic Napa Mountain Cab, with the
dark fruit, oak, vanilla, tobacco, chocolate, and
tannins for days. Perfect match with a juicy steak.
Feel free to pick these up whenever you like.
But remember the Pick-Up Party, when you
can taste all 4 for free. Tuesday, 2/7.
All the best to you and yours!
