Happy New Year!

We start with a reminder that your
1st Quarter Stock-up Days are the final
weekend in February, 2/23-2/24.
That’s when you get 10% off everything
in the store, so please make a note of it!

Your Wine Pick-up Party this month will
on the SECOND THURSDAY, 1/9,
anytime from 5-9 pm. We’ll have both
the Silver and Gold level wines available
to taste, and doing so costs you nothing.

Congratulations to our January winner of the
monthly free bottle, Jim Fiegen. Jim, you may
choose any past or present Silver Level bottle.

Now for the wines, beginning with Silver Level:

The 2011 Rock Wall Zinfandel hails from
Jesse’s Vineyard in Contra Costa County,
and received a 91 point score from Wine
Spectator:

“Big and unapologetically ripe, but pulls it off nicely.
Cherry pie and toasty caramel aromas lead to layered
flavors of black raspberry, sage and spicy cinnamon.”

Silver #2 is the Marietta Old Vine Red Lot 60.
This blend of Zinfandel, Carignan, and Petite
Sirah is loaded with aromas and flavors of
cherries, raspberries, plums and black currants,
with complex layers of sweet earth and spice following.
The mouthfeel is rich and lush with plenty of balance
and a smooth finish.

Now for the Gold Level, we begin with the
2011 Mollydooker Blue Eyed Boy, which
is 100% Shiraz from McClaren Vale.
92 points from Wine Spectator:

“Dark and rich, supple and silky, brimming with
blackberry and black cherry flavors that show
a hint of pomegranate as the finish wraps gently
around the fruit. This has a wonderful open texture
to let the flavors sing.”

Finally, we offer the 2010 Hypothesis Cabernet
Sauvignon, which is the reserve Cab from
the makers of Educated Guess. This got 92
points from Wine Enthusiast:

“Ripe, smooth and flashy, this Cab easily stands
beside more expensive bottlings. It has that Napa
quality of elegant complexity and dryness. The cool
vintage has resulted in intense blackberry and currant
flavors, while preserving vital acidity and brisk tannins.
Oak adds the perfect touch of smoky-wood sweetness.”

Again, all four of these wines will be available
for you to taste on THURSDAY, 1/9.
