Howdy, and welcome to July!
Your Wine Pick-up Party this month will
be on the SECOND TUESDAY, July 9th,
anytime from 5-9 pm. We’ll have both
the Silver and Gold level wines available
to taste.
Congratulations to our July winner of the
monthly free bottle, Douglass Diehl!
Doug, you may choose any past or present
Silver Level bottle.
Now let’s get to the wines, Silver Level first:
The 2010 Tarima Hill Monastrell from Bodegas
Volver in Alicante, Spain received 93 points
from the Wine Advocate:
“This exhibits notes of chocolate fudge, graphite,
blueberries and blackberries. This full-bodied,
100% Monastrell should drink well for a decade
or more. This amazing effort tastes more like it
should cost $30 to $50 as opposed to the mid-teens.”
Next is the 2010 Clos du Bois Reserve Cabernet
from Alexander Valley. This obviously is a huge
brand, which makes it a bit unusual for us, but
when we tasted the wine we had to bring it in:
One of the most pleasurable Clos du Bois Cabernets
in years, and what a delicious bottle it is! Easy to
enjoy now for its softly tannic flavors of cherries,
currants, tobacco, spices and smoky oak. An
absolute no-brainer.
And now, the Gold Level Wines.
First up is the 2010 Luca Beso de Dante
from Argentina, a blend of 60% Malbec
and 40% Cabernet that received 93
points from the Wine Advocate:
“It has a billowing bouquet of dark cherries,
cassis, bay leaf and a hint of espresso that is
beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied,
with tobacco infused black fruit tinged with black
pepper. There is a welcome touch of austerity
towards the finish that begs another sip, with
tobacco then lingering on the aftertaste. This is superb.”
And we close with the 2010 Guigal Crozes-
Hermitage from the Rhone Valley of France,
92 points Wine Advocate:
“This is one of the top wines of the vintage. A
complex bouquet of black olives, licorice, ground
beef, spring flowers and red and black currants
soars from the glass of this 100% Syrah that is
aged in 3-year-old barrels as well as larger foudres.
With remarkable density, this evolved, approachable,
delicious, full-bodied Crozes should drink well for a decade.”
Again, all four of these wines will be available
for you to taste on Tuesday, July 9. We’d
love for you to come give them a try!
That’s the story for July. Have a great month!
