Yum yum, we’ve got a great new set of Club Wines for you! If you would like to
taste them absolutely for free, you may certainly do so during our “Pick Up” night.
Except that one night this month is actually three! That’s right. We’ll have all 4
wines available for tasting Tues-Thurs, September 3-5.
The monthly lucky duck, i.e. winner of a free bottle, is Phil Turner. Congratulations!
AND… your STOCK-UP DAYS – your opportunity to buy wines at a discount –
fall on the very first weekend of September, the 7th and 8th. Our already great prices
get even better that weekend, so definitely make a note of that!
All right, all right, all right, let’s start with the Silver Level wines:
The 2016 G3 Cabernet is from Washington’s Columbia Valley. It has a rich, deep aromatic expression of plum, cherry, and black currant intertwined with elegant notes of graphite and savory spices. The dark fruit flavors resonate on the palate over a supple tannic structure leading to a long, structured finish characterized by notes of raspberry and red plum.
Your second Silver Wine is also a Cab, also from Washington. It’s the 2015 Double
Canyon Cab from Horse Heaven Hills. 90 points Wine Advocate:
“Bursts from the glass with a dramatic bouquet of ripe cherries, sweet berry liqueur and loamy soil. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied and generous, with an ample core of ripe fruit, good balancing acids and ripe but youthfully chewy tannins.”
Now let’s go for the Gold. The 2017 El Lugar Pinot Noir Rincon Vineyard is from a
highly regarded plot in Arroyo Grande originally planted by the Talley Family.
This is true Pinot Noir, for sure, with classic notes of cherry, strawberry, rhubarb,
cola, tea leaf, a subtle but persistent note of loamy earth, and a light veneer of
oak influence. If you ever need a medium-bodied red wine that is incredibly
versatile with food, this wine is a perfect solution.
Finally, we have a very special addition to the Club. It’s a white wine, but don’t panic.
It’s amazing. (yes, yes, we know some folks insist on all red all the time,
and you can substitute another red if you want)
Hanzell is a highly-respected Chardonnay producer that farms what is thought to be
the oldest Chard vineyard in the country. Their Estate Chardonnay typically sells for
$60 to $70 a bottle.
But we managed a killer deal on this wine that enables us to offer it as a Club Wine,
so that’s what we’re doing. Their 2014 Estate Chard is drinking beautifully.
Engaging aromas of lemon, honeysuckle, pear, and hazelnut are joined by hints of
grapefruit and lime. With a creamy yet light texture, flavors of tangerine, apple,
pear, and a subtle minerality linger through a long, bright finish.
If you enjoy wines that are complex, nuanced, and – again – very versatile with food, we
highly suggest you give this one a try. Even though it’s white. 😉
Well, that’s all the news that’s fit to print. Have an awesome month!
