Hope your summer is off to a great start!
Your Wine Club wines are here and
ready for you. If you’d like to taste all
four, the Pick-up Party is TUESDAY,
July first, any time from 5-9. Come taste
the club wines for free, and mingle with
fellow members.
Our monthly WINNER is Laura Pistey.
Laura, feel free to select any past or
present Silver level wine.
Now for the wines, starting with the Silvers.
First up is the 2012 Barista Pinotage from
the Western Cape of South Africa.
It has a burst of intense, rich, coffee and chocolate
aromas with ripe nuances of mulberry, plum and
Maraschino cherries. All the aromas follow through
onto the palate and are enhanced by sweet
aromas of vanilla and butterscotch. The wine has
ripe luscious tannins and is ready to be enjoyed now.
The second silver is the 2011 J. Rickards
Old Vine Zinfandel from Alexander Valley.
This is a classic field blend of 80% Zinfandel,
10% Petite Sirah, 5% Carignane, 4% Mataro,
with 1% Alicante Bouschet, Muscant de Canelli
and Golden Chasselas.
The resulting wine has the classic Alexander Valley
aromas and flavors of ripe blackberry, raspberry,
plum, gingerbread and mocha with finely integrated
tannins, which carry through the dense mouthfeel
and long, juicy, delicious finish.
Now to the Gold Level. First is the 2012 Ken Brown
Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara.
“Pleasing aromas of black cherries, ripe berries
and echoes of oak. Very tasty black cherry core
with hints of red candy and spice and an earthy
undertone. A very approachable offering with
mild tannins and a silky mouthfeel. Almost
weightless. You won’t find a better AVA blend
in the marketplace.”
Finally, we offer the 2009 Fin Amour from the
Cotes Catalanes in southwest France, which
is a blend of 70% old vine Grenache and 30%
old vine Carignan.
These splendid rocky schist vineyards – over
80 years old – yield a wine of iris and violet aromas
macerated with strawberry, black cherry and ripe
boysenberry. The dense, structured majestic
mouthfeel is framed in minerality. Power and
elegance lay the foundation for a complex wine
of dark brooding fruit, savory and meaty, licorice
and violets, dried fruits and floating rose petals.
Truly magnificent.
We think you will be pleased with your wines.
Come taste all four at the Pick-up Party,
which again is TUESDAY, JULY FIRST.
Be well, and Happy July 4th!
