Wow, here we are at O.N.D. already! (that’s an industry term; an extra taste for you
at the Pick-up Party if you can tell us what it means) Here’s all the fun stuff you
need to know.
First is a heads-up about another WINE CLASS we’re offering Monday, October 22.
The class will once again be taught by Cat, and the subject is Pinot Noir! Time is from 6:30-8 pm. The cost for non-members is $30, including wine tasting, but YOU as a
member get it for $25. Let us know if you’re interested!
Your Pick-up Party, which is your opportunity to taste all 4 Club wines for FREE,
falls on Wednesday the 3rd, any time from 5-9.
The monthly BOTTLE WINNER is Kat Post. Congratulations!
The 4th Quarter STOCK-UP DAYS are 3 DAYS this time – Friday, Saturday and Sunday,
November 23-25. You get 10% off everything in the shop, so take advantage!
Now here are your wines, Silver Level first. First up is the 2017 Maipe Reserve Malbec
from Mendoza, Argentina.
The nose reveals dried plum and dark fruits, exotic spices, with hints of violet and
chocolate. It is round and fleshy, with enticing crushed plum and boysenberry fruit
enlivened by a licorice note.
Silver #2 is the 2015 Ryan Patrick Rock Island Red, a Syrah-based blend from
Washington’s Columbia Valley.
The RP is a complex red with aromas and flavors of ripe blue and black fruit, clove
and black pepper, all backed by refreshing acidity and approachable tannins.
Gold Level wines next. The 2016 Baby Blue from Blue Rock Cellars in Alexander
Valley is also a blend, combining Cabernet, Merlot, and other Bordeaux varietals
with a splash or two of Syrah.
It is smooth and balanced, with rich flavors of blackberry, blueberry, cherry, pepper, and smoke that linger voluptuously on the palate.
Your second Gold is the 2016 Chateauneuf-du-Pape from Domaine Juliette Avril.
This of course is a classic southern Rhone GSM blend (Grenache, Syrah, and
Mourvedre) that shows the vigor of the vintage.
It is already open and forward, with notes of ripe black cherry and plum accented
by stony minerality, anise, and subtle floral perfume, with fine-grained tannins
adding to the expressive feel of the wine.
Cheers, and thank you! Hope to see you soon!
