We are excited to announce the arrival of your November Club wines, which we will
describe in a moment. First, these few details:
Your Pick-up Party, which is your opportunity to taste all 4 Club wines for FREE,
falls on Wednesday the 6th, any time from 5-9.
The monthly BOTTLE WINNER is Michelle Chin. Congratulations!
AND… your STOCK-UP DAYS – your opportunity to buy wines at a discount –
fall on the LAST WEEKEND of November, the 29th and 30th, plus Sunday the 1st
of December. The holidays are a great time to take advantage of that deal, so
make a note of that for sure!
All right, here are the Silver Level wines:
The 2017 Chelsea Goldschmidt Merlot comes from the Salmon’s Leap Vineyard
in Dry Creek Valley. The wine has Merlot’s characteristic soft, lush mouthfeel,
with a delicious array of flavors like cherry, raspberry, mocha and cinnamon.
Also from 2017, the Browne Heritage Cabernet is a winner from Washington’s
Columbia Valley. This is 88% Cab with the rest Merlot and Petit Verdot.
Toasty sweet oak aromatics lead to flavors of blackberry preserves, milk chocolate and black pepper. It is medium bodied with balanced acid and integrated tannins, finishing with a savory note and ripe berries.
Now let’s look at the Golds. First up is the 2015 Meyer Family “Fluffy Billows”
Cabernet from the same Oakville vineyard that was the primary source for the
stellar early vintages of Silver Oak Napa Cab. No coincidence, that. Matt Meyer is
the son of the legendary Justin Meyer, co-founder and first winemaker of Silver Oak.
This wine is beautiful, and a throwback to those early days of Silver Oak, showing
both richness and complexity of flavor with great balance. Blackberry and blackcurrant notes are augmented by fig, cranberry, and rose petal, and the structure is terrific.
Finally, the 2016 Juan Gil Blue Label Monastrell hails from Spain’s Jumilla region.
This is very spicy and smoky, with plenty of toasty and roasted aromas. The palate reveals abundant tannins and oak tones accenting the dark fruit, and it finishes nice and dry.
Really a great batch of wines – we think you’ll enjoy them, and maybe even come
back for more. Cheers, and Happy Thanksgiving!!
