When people ask about our Wine Club, we always say that it’s all about exploration, and that is as true this month as any. We’ve got 4 super cool bottles to tell you about, but first, a few details.
The monthly free bottle winner is Brett Boger. Congrats!
Your STOCK-UP DAYS for March are Saturday and Sunday, the 19th and 20th.
Your chance to taste all 4 club wines is this midweek, Tuesday the 1st through Thursday the 3rd. This tasting is FREE for you and your spouse, or a friend.
Now for the Club Wines, leading off with Silver Level. The 2019 El Vivero Garnacha blend is from Spain’s Alicante region. It checks all the geeky boxes: sustainable, fermented in amphora with native yeast, no sulfur added. Most important, it also tastes good!
It’s full of character and personality, with dark fruit tones accented by dusty earth, dried herbs and a touch of coffee, coming across juicy yet well-structured.
Next is another 2019 Grenache blend, the Domaine Fond Croze Cairanne from France’s southern Rhone Valley. This is 50% Grenache and 25% each Mourvedre and Carignan.
On entry this also has a nice juicy quality to the dark red fruit flavors, with dusty earth and an intriguing salty, sanguine quality, plus a hint of leather. This wine is also well-structured. It will be fun to try them back-to-back!
The first of our two Gold Wines is the 2018 Acclivity Cabernet from Alexander Valley.
Only 163 cases were made of this beauty that is 80% Cab and 20% Merlot. Aromas of blueberry, black cherry, oak and vanilla transition to the grippy palate, where hints of chocolate, mocha and violets develop as it opens up. This is delicious now and also has a bright future ahead of it.
Last batter up is the 2018 Lucas & Lewellen Cabernet Franc from Santa Ynez Valley.
This impressive red also offers big grippy tannins, which shepherd the tasty array of flavors including cherry, black cherry, oak and subtle notes of vanilla, tobacco and olive tapenade.
Thank you for joining us on these fun explorations. Hope to see you soon!
