Hello to April!
Before we get to your club wines, here are some
other things you want to know about:
Your Pick-up Party is Tuesday, 4/7.
Come on in and taste all Club wines,
any time from 5-9.
Our monthly WINNER is Dave Crabtree.
Dave, come on in and pick any past or
present Silver level wine.
And here’s advance notice on your Stock-Up
Days, which for the second quarter fall on
the first weekend in June, 6/6-6/7.
Now for the wines, starting with the Silvers.
We have the 2010 Allegrini Palazzo Della Torre
from the Veronese appellation in Italy. This
received 90 points from both Wine Enthusiast
and Wine Advocate:
“The 2010 Palazzo della Torre is 70% Corvina,
25% Rondinella and 5% Sangiovese that is air-dried
until December after the harvest. That brief
appassimento has shaped a delicious wine with loads
of cherry and dark spice. It’s a great value with the
depth of concentration and length that would match
a wine double this price. Drink 2013-2018”
Silver #2 is the 2011 Wente Merlot from Livermore.
This delicious wine “exhibits aromas and flavors of
black cherry, blackberry and plum with hints of toasted
oak. A smooth mouthfeel and inviting tannins lead to a
long, fruity finish.”
Now for the Goldies! (there’s a curve ball coming, so
pay attention) Let’s start with the 2010 Zaca Mesa
Reserve Syrah from the Santa Ynez Valley.
This wine displays blackberry, cassis, mocha, cedar,
sage and spice aromas and flavors, with a lingering
finish loaded with ripe tannins and smoky oak.
Your second Gold is the 2012 Stuhlmuller Cabernet
from Alexander Valley.
“A promising bouquet of blackberry, currant, and ripe
black plum. The big, bold flavors inherent to Cabernet
are on display, showcasing crème de cassis, dark berries,
hints of new leather, cedar, and baking spices. A well-
integrated, supple structure suggests it will cellar nicely
for another 5 years, but it is drop-dead gorgeous now.”
You may choose those 2, or… you may choose one
bottle of the 2010 Cakebread Cellars Cabernet, 90 points
Wine Advocate:
“An attractive blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest
small amounts of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and
Malbec. This is nicely concentrated with lots of cassis and
plum notes. Medium to full-bodied, pure, juicy, sexy and alluring,
it will clearly age for 15 or more years despite its early appeal.”
Please join us at the Pick-up Party, which again is
Tuesday, 4/7.
Cheers!!
