Greetings and salutations!
Before we get to your club wines, here are some
other things you want to know about:
Your Pick-up Party is Tuesday, 5/5.
Come on in and taste all Club wines,
any time from 5-9. (yes, this is Cinco
de Mayo. But around here we call it
Cinco de Wino!)
Our monthly WINNER is Waiel Ali.
Waiel, come on in and pick any past or
present Silver level wine.
And here’s advance notice on your Stock-Up
Days, which for the second quarter fall on
the first weekend in June, 6/6-6/7.
Now for the wines, starting with the Silvers.
Number one is the Meiomi Pinot Noir 2013, which
blends fruit from Sonoma, Monterey, and Santa
Barbara.
The wine opens up with aromas of ripe berries, fresh
cranberry, candy apple and malted vanilla, some of which
carries through to the palate, along with notes of rich
cream soda and cherry cola. It is an extremely layered
wine, both in structure and flavor, with a slight earthiness
and sweet oak on the finish.
Number two is the 2012 Tarima Hill Monastrell from
the Alicante region of Spain. (Monastrell is also
known as Mourvedre). 92 points Stephen Tanzer:
“Heady, seductively perfumed aromas of dark berry
liqueur, cherry-cola, Indian spices and candied violet,
with a smoky mineral nuance adding vivacity. Sweet,
penetrating and seamless on the palate, offering intense
black raspberry and mocha flavors underscored by juicy
acidity. At once rich and energetic, finishing strong”
Gold level wines next. First is the 2012 Falcone
Syrah from Paso Robles.
Classic aromas include boysenberry and blackberry
with a smoky accent, while cranberry and blackberry
flavors and refined tannins round out the flavors and finish.
Your second Gold is the 2012 Falcone Cabernet
Sauvignon, also of course from Paso Robles.
There are aromas of blackberry, anise, cocoa and wood
smoke, which continue on the palate with the flavor
of black cherry. This is a soft, silky wine with rich
tannic structure.
Hope to see you for the Pick-up Party on Tuesday,
May 5th.
Cheers!!
