Well, here we go, the 2nd half of 2020 starts now. We hope and pray for health, happiness and success for you and yours. We’ve also got some great wines for you! But first, let’s take care of these tidbits: The winner of the FREE bottle for June is Mark Whatley, who gets to choose any past or present Silver level wine. Congrats! Your STOCK-UP DAYS for July, when you get that helpful discount on wine purchases, are Friday and Saturday, the 17th and 18th. We’re offering this discount every month now, in appreciation for your continued support. And now for the wines, Silver first. The 2017 Tres Picos Garnacha comes to us from the Campo de Borja region of Spain. A super brambly red that has abundantly rich, ripe, dark berry and cherry aromas. The palate is a riot of fresh dark berries and delivers a very plush, sweetly spiced, powder-dry finish. Next we have the 2017 Clos de los Siete. From Argentina’s Uco Valley, it’s a blend of Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet, Syrah and Petit Verdot. A very refined, creamy wine, showing blackberries and blueberries with chocolate and light hazelnut notes. Medium to full body. The fine tannins are polished and creamy and the beautiful, reserved finish goes on for a really long time. Now for the Gold Level. The 2016 Steven Kent Cabernet Franc hails from California’s Livermore Valley. The wine shows a gorgeous interplay of red and black fruit, with a nuanced suggestion of oak (20% new French barrels) and the varietal’s characteristic herbal and olive notes. With intensity of fruit and great depth of structure, this is an impressive example. Lastly, the 2015 Editorial Cabernet from Napa Valley. Some of the fruit for this wine comes from a very famous estate whose wines sell for gargantuan prices (but I can’t tell you its name). From nose to finish this Cab offers a complex variety of impressions, including cherry, black cherry, cranberry, graphite, pepper, and savory herbs. The structure here is solid Napa Valley, with impressive tannin-acid balance. This, with Cardiff Crack or something similarly meaty, would be awesome. From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU for your continued support! We plan on doing our very best to stay safe and sane (as well as OPEN) and we hope you do likewise. Cheers!
