It’s been hot and sticky lately, for sure. We’re hoping this latest batch of Wine Club
wines will help you stay comfortable! Let’s get through a few details, then we’ll
discuss your wines.
First is a heads-up about another WINE CLASS we’re offering this coming Monday,
August 6th. Yes, Monday. Which means you get the place to yourself, since we
are closed to the public on Mondays. The class will once again be taught by Cat,
and it’s on the wines of Italy. Time is from 6:30-8 pm. The cost for non-members
is $30, including wine tasting, but YOU as a member get it for $25. We are limited
to 12 students, so let us know quickly if you’re interested!
Your Pick-up Party, which is your opportunity to taste all 4 Club wines for FREE,
falls on Wednesday August 8th, any time from 5-9.
The monthly BOTTLE WINNER is Ann Cole. Congratulations!
The 3rd Quarter STOCK-UP DAYS fall on the first weekend in September, the 8th and 9th.
Now here are your wines, Silver Level first. The 2015 Lealtanza Rioja “Capitoso”
is a youthful and remarkably accessible Tempranillo, offering ripe notes of
strawberry and raspberry, with additional notes of licorice, sweet almond, and oak.
Silver #2 is a white wine (don’t worry, you can switch it for a red if you want) which
we believe makes a quintessential summertime sipper. It’s the 2016 Senorio de
Otxaran Txakoli from Spain’s Basque region.
This is probably a wine you haven’t tried before, but that’s the point of our club!
It’s absolutely delicious, so fresh and vibrant, with citrus and melon flavors,
subtle minerality, and a whiff of sea spray. It has a deep affinity both for seafood
and pleasant patio sipping.
Gold Level wines next. The 2015 Penner-Ash Pinot Noir hails from Oregon’s
Willamette Valley, Here is Wine Spectator’s 92 point note:
“Expressive and refined with pretty raspberry and lavender aromas and tightly focused blackberry and spiced cinnamon flavors that lead toward polished tannins.”
Finally, the 2014 Arrowood Cabernet comes from Knights Valley. It received a
92 point score from Vinous.
The wine is bold with black forest fruit and fresh plum, offering undertones of cherry fruit, leather and crushed rock. Cocoa powder and spice come through on the palate accompanied by broad tannins and a rich and persistent finish.
Thank you so much, and hope to see you at the Pick Up Party. Cheers!
