Welcome to this newsletter, and Happy Spring!!
Your Pick-up Party, which is your opportunity to taste all 4 Club wines
for free, falls on Tuesday 4/10, from 5-9.
The monthly BOTTLE WINNER is Michelle Derksen. Congratulations!
Now here are your wines, Silver Level first. The 2015 High on the Hog is a
Central Coast red made by McPrice Myers.
It’s a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre from vineyards in Santa Barbara.
It is easy drinking and approachable with aromas of black tea, mocha, licorice,
ripe plums and raspberries. On the palate, the wine shows lush tannins and
very soft texture with flavors of black cherry, white pepper and smoked meat.
A curveball next! Our Club Wines are almost always red, but every so
often we find a white or sparkler that intrigues us so much, we throw
it into the mix. The 2015 Gold Crush Chardonnay fits the bill – and let’s
face it, this time of year you need to have whites on hand.
It is rich, creamy and complex. Bursting with notes of crushed nectarines
and warm vanilla, it rolls into the tongue buttery and smooth, finishing
with a hint of spice. Classic Cali Chard.
Now for the Gold level. The 2014 Freemark Abbey Cabernet from Napa
received all kinds of great press, including this 95 point note from Decanter:
“Powerful blackcurrant nose, with slightly charred oak. Very rich without being
jammy, it packs a punch. An assertive and very youthful style, but good acidity
and tannins mean this should go the distance.”
Finally we offer the 2013 Terra Noble Carmenere from Chile’s Colchagua
Valley.
This boasts black cherry and dark plum on the nose, with some oak influence,
vanilla, and subtle herbs. All that follows on the palate, very nicely, with good
structure but staying smooth. This is well made and delicious.
Thank you for your attention and support. Hope to see you at the Pickup Party!!
