We are excited to announce the arrival of your April Club wines, which we will
describe in a moment. First, these few details:
Your Pick-up Party, which is your opportunity to taste all 4 Club wines for FREE,
falls on Tuesday the 2nd, any time from 5-9.
The monthly BOTTLE WINNER is Tony Hilgers. Congratulations!
All right, here are the Silver Level wines:
The 2015 Alcance Gran Reserva Cabernet is from Chile, and it’s terrific.
This is a deep, intense, complex wine with aromas of cherries and cassis. The bright, vivacious palate explodes with dark fruit over powerful yet refined tannins.
Then we have the 2013 Pocas Douro Red from Portugal, 90 points Wine Enthusiast:
“This is an open, delicious, fruity and ripe wine that is ready to drink. Its black currant and red berry tastes are balanced by spice, wood aged flavors and a core of tannins. The aftertaste introduces fresh juicy acidity.”
Now for Gold! The 2016 Beckmen Syrah, from Ballard Canyon, 93 points Vinous.
Dark chocolate, plum, blackberry, vanilla, black pepper, grilled meats, and game are hallmarks of Purisima Mountain Syrah and the 2016 is loaded with them! Big and powerful, yet elegant and complex, this is an incredible vintage.
Last but not least, the 2016 Penner-Ash Pinot Noir from Oregon’s Willamette Valley.
(if this seems familiar, the previous vintage was also in the Wine Club a few months
back – a testament to the consistency of this producer) 93 points Wine Advocate:
The nose offers “red cherries, cranberries and warm raspberry with underlying suggestions of pink peppercorn and flowers. Light to medium-bodied, it gives up great layers of warm red and blue fruits with earthy accents of forest floor, wet earth and bark. It’s structured by fine-grained tannins and great juicy acidity carrying the long fruit-forward finish. This is youthfully coiled but should blossom beautifully.”
So much good stuff! We think you’ll enjoy these and look forward to seeing you soon!
