Mixing things up just a bit, we’ll start with the Gold Level wines this time. The 2014 Louis Martini Napa Cabernet drew a 93-95 point score from the Wine Advocate:
“One of the strongest efforts yet from the Martinis, this opaque purple wine has a beautiful nose of blueberries, blackcurrants, licorice, camphor and graphite. It is full-bodied and multilayered on the palate with sensational richness and length. It should drink well for 20-25 years.”
Then we have the 2015 Crous St. Martin Chateauneuf-du-Pape. The nose will reveal aromas of cherry, mulberry and fine spices. On the palate it shows depth, with notes of kirsch, blackcurrant, thyme, licorice and white pepper. Tannins are present but polished. It is a complex wine with roundness, power and a long finish. 80% Grenache, 10% each Syrah and Mourvedre.
Now let’s talk Silver. The 2015 Boneshaker Zinfandel from Lodi is named after the early model wrought iron bicycles, and it will shake you up in a different way! 90 points Wine Enthusiast:
“This is a lushly textured, full-bodied wine that lifts beautiful blueberry and blackberry flavors on fine-grained tannins. It has lightly spicy aromas, a mouth filling viscosity and long finish. Best Buy.”
Finally we close with the 2015 Ancient Peaks Renegade from Paso Robles, a blend of 55% Syrah, 27% Zinfandel, 13% Petite Syrah and 5% Petit Verdot. 93 points Tasting Panel:
“With aromas of plum brandy, cassis, and jammy blackberry, bold flavors echo the nose. Chalky tannins are relieved by a juicy–yet meaty–quality, morphing the texture to more of a silky feel. Tilled soil, violets, and white pepper lead the charge to the finish.”
Exciting, provocative, delicious wines. We look forward to pouring them
for you on Tuesday the 6th, and also to getting your feedback. Cheers!
