Happy New Year!
We are confident we once again have chosen some
pretty darn good wines for you to enjoy this month.
But first, a few details. Your Pick-up Party is Tuesday,
January 5th. Come on in and taste all Club wines,
any time from 4-9.
The monthly BOTTLE WINNER is Laurie Martell. Laurie,
you get to pick any past or present Silver level wine.
Okay, now for the wines. Silver #1 is the 2013 Ridge
Three Valleys from Sonoma, 91 points Wine Advocate:
“A blend of 80% Zinfandel, 11% Carignan, 8% Petite Sirah
and a splash of Alicante Bouschet, this has lots of berry
fruits, bramble, spice-box and licorice in its medium-bodied,
supple, nicely textured and delicious profile. It’s a full-flavored,
delicious wine to drink over the coming 7-8 years.”
Silver #2 is the 2012 Cantina Zaccagnini Montepulciano
d’Abruzzo.
100% Montepulciano, this offers up ripe, balanced
flavors of blackcurrant, black cherry, dry earth, and
cedar. Though the tannins provide dusty grip, the
wine stays soft, approachable, and utterly drinkable.
Gold level next. First up is the 2013 Chappellet Mountain
Cuvee from Napa.
The aromas are rich and enticing, with concentrated layers
of blueberry and blackberry, plus notes of baking spice, toast,
dark chocolate, bay leaf and black pepper. On the plush, rich
palate, this wine is immediately hedonistic and satisfying.
Mouthcoating flavors of black cherry and cassis are layered
with clove and vanilla, while integrated tannins give balance
and structure to this complex blend of Merlot, Cab, Petit
Verdot, Malbec, and Cab Franc.
Gold #2 is the 2013 Ridge Geyserville from Sonoma,
94 points Vinous:
“Ripe and voluptuous on the palate – yet with a super-classic
conception of structure, the 2013 offers superb depth and
impeccable overall balance. Waves of dark red cherry,
pomegranate, spice, tobacco lead to more savory/ferrous
notes that develop in the glass. Saline notes give the 2013
much of its energy and vivacity. This is a tremendous effort.”
Please come see us on Tuesday, 1/5/16, to taste all
four of these delicious wines.
Cheers, and have a great month!!
(p.s., we will be closed for the first four days of
January. We’ll see you after then.)
