Here we are, in 2021. A calendar page has turned, and we’re hoping and praying that this year will eventually prove to be less stressful than the last.
At the very least, we can kick off the year with some fine wine! We’ll describe your Club Wines in a moment. First, a couple details.
First of all, we will begin the year with a few days off. We re-open on Tuesday the 5th. At that point our days & hours will be Tues-Sun, 11-6.
The monthly free bottle winner for January is Brian Green. Congrats!
Your STOCK-UP DAYS for January fall on Saturday and Sunday, the 23rd and 24th. Hope to see you then!
Now for the wines, and we’ll talk about the Silver Level first. The 2017 Maddalena Cabernet from Paso Robles shows ripe red fruit, including raspberry, plum, and spicy black cherry. Barrel aging contributes notes of vanilla, caramel, and oak spice. The mouth is round with a rich, silky texture that is framed by soft tannins.
Next is the 2018 Vina Robles “The Arborist” red blend, also from Paso Robles. Wine Enthusiast gave this 94 points and the #19 spot in their 2020 Top 100:
“This is a screamingly good deal, offering both hedonistic pleasure and complexity through a blend of 41% Syrah, 35% Petite Sirah, 12% Grenache and 12% Tannat. Aromas of roasted cherry, smoked meat and cola spice lead into a hearty palate of black currant, roasted game and licorice.”
Now for the Gold. The 2016 Kaena Merlot is from Los Olivos, and it’s amazing.
Deep aromas include blackberry, plum and dark cherry, plus chocolate, vanilla and a touch of coconut. On the palate generous notes of blackberry, boysenberry and currant give way to an intense core filled with dark chocolate, juicy cherry and allspice, finishing long, with rich elegant tannins.
Finally, we have the 2018 Decoy Limited red from Napa Valley. The blend is 43% Merlot, 25% Zinfandel, 24% Cabernet and 8% Tempranillo.
On the palate, velvety tannins accentuate the luxurious fruit, with gorgeous flavors of black raspberry, cherry, cassis, briary spice, and sweet French oak lingering on the long, delectable finish.
We think you’ll love these wines. THANK YOU for your wonderful support throughout the previous year. We are so grateful for you, and we look forward to providing you with excellent wines in 2021.
CHEERS!
